When to call vet? - dog off food but still eating

Hi all,

We noticed yesterday that our 11 mth old labradoodle was a bit lethargic and off his food a bit. But he had a long walk yesterday so we wondered if he was just shattered. When I say 'off his food' he refused a carrot snack, but ate breakfast, dinner and other snacks.

Today he seems a bit brighter, still not 100%, but ate his breakfast slowly which is unheard of, left a few pieces (unheard of) and has refused an egg for snack. But he has accepted a few dog cracker biscuits.

He hasn't been sick and seems to be toileting ok, was fine on his walk.

So basically, he is a bit off his food, but still eating and drinking plenty, but I just know he's not 'right', as he is normally a greedy lab that will inhale anything in a split second.

I was wondering if it was his teeth. They look ok, but one of his front ones looked like it might be chipped at the top, but nothing obvious.

Hope you see the conundrum, is it worth a vet visit or do I give it a few days?

Obviously if he stops eating altogether I'll take him in.

does he eat things off the floor when out and about? mine frequently had dodgy tummy when young. I'd not feed for 24 hrs apart from probiotic paste. then introduce small amounts of bland diet for 24 hrs after that.

He likes rabbit poo, and TBH if he finds food he eats it, he is a very greedy boy! Hoping it is just an upset tummy. He had cucumber, going to try some rice.

stop feeding him for 24 hours if he is sick. you don't need to find food he will eat, he needs a stomach rest. buy a tin of chappie and feed him small bits of that after 24 hrs fasting.

Vet sooner rather than later.

He may have an obstruction, though hopefully he's just eaten something a bit off or picked a virus up.

Thanks all. He has had a few small chicken strips, but basically fasting him.

Whilst I finally had him lying still I spotted his toenail on his back paw is looking angry and pussy and between the toes is a bit red, so looks like we are going to the vet tomorrow regardless to get it cleaned up.

Fingers crossed his tummy settles.
