How to know when dogs first season is finished

Been is season (bleeding spots occasionally now for 2 weeks). I was hoping it would be finished by 3 weeks and that we were now past most fertile days. But I just read that the most fertile days are just after bleeding stops. Does anyone have any wisdom on this?

I always use caution for at least 4 weeks!

We kept her off daycare and also stuck to on-lead street walks for 2 weeks after she stopped bleeding. That said our girl was very, very clean so the bleeding was minimal and we err-ed on the side of caution.
