Best alternative to raw food?

DDogs have been raw fed for nearly 18 months now and we've been thrilled by the effect it's had on them.

We've recently moved to a winter let while we look to buy a property, we're loving it (as are DDogs!) but there is only the smallest of freezer compartments in the fridge and nowhere we could even look to keep a stand alone freezer.

We've previously fed Wolfworthy when we've forgotten to take meat out or been on holiday, but after a couple of days it seemed too rich for them and gave them very loose stools - initially it was no problem.

Ideally we would continue to feed raw but logistically it's going to be very tricky. I'm happy to do a mix if there's a way to make that work but need a dry alternative that gives me all the benefits of raw feeding without a freezer.

This is only a temporary problem so (within reason!) cost is not an issue.

I'm a raw feeder and I've been told tribal is very good. Personally, like you, I'd only use short term if necessary.

Do you have a Natural Instinct supplier nearby that you could get to once a week? If so, I would think you could continue with raw and use the bigger packs of this - defrosting in the fridge and keeping frozen blocks stacked together until you want them to defrost, I'd think they'd get you by easily.

Eden kibble is the best brand if raw isn’t sustainable

Thank you Flowers

I've already been recommended Eden so will give that a go. I'm hopeful we can continue to feed mostly raw but we are some distance from the closest supplier and truthfully only have space for about 6 days at a time. I will need a reliable dry substitute to plug the gaps Wink

Gentle, which is cold-pressed, is also decent and according to our fussy dog, actually palatable.

I had this problem when I moved into my flat and ended up buying a small table top freezer which holds enough raw food for a month for my cocker spaniel. I keep it on the floor in my bedroom with a throw covering the front of it and a plant on top - you’d never know!

How about the Forthglade wet trays, then?

KillingEvenings · 10/11/2021 09:38

We have the same problem with Wolfworthy. We used Akela previously and did not have that problem so next time I need to buy a bag of dry, will go for that. Scores very highly on allaboutfood and quite a bit cheaper than Wolfworthy to boot.

I've discovered a new raw feeding shop locally and stocked up on some skinny chubs which fit in my freezer compartment much better. Also a bag of Eden which both dogs were very complimentary about when they tested it earlier Wink
