My pup has an allergy but how do I know what it is? Vet prescribed steroids (short course) but after this still licking at paws (stained), itchy tail etc. How do we start eliminating what's causing it? She's 7 months old. Thanks for any advice Smile

Washing powder on her bedding?
Carpet fresheners?
Your perfume?
Or food allergy?
I know a woman who switched her ddog to bottled water and he was itch free!

Mine has 9 food allergies and 2 mite allergies. He had allergy testing, which his insurance paid for, but is a terrible paw licker and flaps his head when his ears are itchy. He had ear infections that never really cleared up which led to the allergy tests.

Poor bugger is allergic to house dust mites so living with me he's on a hiding to nothing! We took up the carpet (not just because of him but it was a factor) and put karndean down which helped, and use a flea spray on the soft furnishings which also kills house dust mites. He sleeps in his own bed as apparently sleeping on our bed is one of the worst things for house dust mite allergies.

You may never know what is causing it unless you get him tested unfortunately

We are "lucky" that our dog throws up if something is going to bother her so know what she can and can't eat. If something environmental is bothering her then a piriton will do the job. If her ears/paws/base of tail are really bad then Thornit powder will sort her out within 48 hours. It has been a miracle powder for her.

It could really be anything. You can go down the testing route or look into the breed breed? Some breeds / lines have specific issues I'd look at this first.
