Dog food out of stock anywhere - food sensitivities - any other suggestions?

My poor old pooch can't tolerate protein so for years has been eating Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D Food Sensitivities canned food. It's been out of stock for ages, apparently nationally. I've spoken to my vet who suggested Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic canned food - which he also got on well with but this is now also out of stock! Does anyone else's dog eat either of these and what are you feeding them at the moment? Any other suggestions?

Other Hydrolzed food is:-

Purina HA
Purina wet hydrolzed food

Royal Canin do dry and wet also small breed if you are desperate and that is available just smaller size kibble.

Used to be able to get Blue buffalo not sure if you still can in UK
SPECIFIC (Dechra) CDD-HY Food Allergen Management Dry Dog Food.

I am no vet so these are just ones I know that are hydrolzed so still check with your vet they are suitable for your dog.

What a nightmare for you though as change in diet can cause such upset for these dogs - hope you get it sorted.

Try www.bitiba.co.uk - I get my cat's renal food from them.

DH ordered some royal canin direct from Germany yesterday, as the usual online suppliers were out of stock. Obviously it cost more but it was possible.

Is it the wet or dry your doggo has?

Apologies - I have just reread your post and can see it is the wet. I don't suppose you live in/near Hampshire? I have a large quantity of the food in the garage. My dog had to change from ZD to ID because of pancreatitis. You are most welcome to it.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/10/2021 16:05

Our royal canin has arrived already. (It's just a dry breed specific one not a more specialised one though)

I'm not a million miles away - do you want to DM me where you are?

Thanks everyone for your comments, Germany will be the next option!

Just to say we use zd for one of our dogs and have had to switch to the dry food as we struggled getting the cans. If your dog can manage kibble we now use vivovet and its pretty quick delivery

Sitdowncupoftea · 30/10/2021 22:20

Chappie as recommended by vets. It's the only food one of mine can eat.

lifeisbetterinpajamas did you offload your hills zd cans? If you still have them would happily take them off your hands for a few quid.

Otherwise, does anyone know why there isn't any available and when it will be back?

I'm having the same problem - might have to try Germany!

Here is the response I got from Hills just before Christmas...

"We love that you and your pet love Hill’s Prescription Diet z/d. We work hard to maintain strict product quality to keep your loved one feeling their best. One of the ingredients in z/d is highly specialised and can only be produced by a limited number of suppliers.

Unfortunately, we are facing difficulty sourcing this ingredient at the high quality standard we insist upon. This has resulted in the product being temporarily out of stock.

We understand that this can be difficult for both you and your loved one, so we’re working hard on approving new high-quality suppliers to ensure a constant production of our z/d foods.

We apologise for the inconvenience and challenges this stocking situation may cause for you and your pet."

So no idea when it will be back in stock :(

It's a nightmare at the moment - mine is on Royal Canin gastrointestinal low fat tins because he's very prone to pancreatitis and it's been going out of stock within days of reappearing. It's the only food that keeps him well, but it (and the Hills equivalent, which he's just about OK on in a pinch) just vanish. RC have given us the same excuse about production/ingredients that Hills gave a previous poster. We've found petdrugsonline.co.uk the most likely place to have it in, but have had to get it from all sorts of random places, including having a 12-pack shipped from a vet practice in Northern Ireland at one point when none of the online stockists had any!
