Old boy constantly urinating

Our lovely terrier is 16 now. He's quite deaf, and arthritic, but on NSAIDs and managing to enjoy a gentle life with us (I hope)

Over the course of the past year he has started urinating by the back door, if no one is around to let him out. It's no big deal, and doesn't seem to bother him.

3/4 days ago though, he started squatting and peeing constantly. Every few minutes. He'll sleep for a while, seemingly comfortably, but when he's up he just pootles round doing little wees everywhere. We phoned the vet who phoned us back and said it could be a urinary infection and prescribed antibiotics. So he's been taking them for 3 days and he's no better.

He's eating and drinking, and otherwise seems exactly the same but just squatting and peeing all the time.

I will phone the vet first thing in the morning but in the meantime has anyone had any experience of this? I'm not looking for a diagnosis of course, just people's experiences.

Thanks for reading.

Not sure if you’ve seen the vet now, but definitely get him an appointment if not. At his age I would want to have blood tests done to check his kidneys as well as a check for diabetes.

At that age I would suspect kidney disease or kidney failure - he needs blood tests.
