Kennel cough

We took our bearded collie to the vet on Tues and he got diagnosed with kennel cough, we think he caught it at the groomers last week.
The vet prescribed Loxicam (meloxicam) once a day but he doesn't seem to be getting any better. I've been sleeping downstairs to keep an eye on him and his cough is awful, during the night he coughed up a load of clear phlegm (sorry tmi!)
He's lying on his sofa and he just looks so sorry for himself. Does anyone have any helpful tips and advice? TIA

Our puppy (5 months) had kennel cough a couple of weeks ago. We were giving honey mixed with a little bit of water. No idea if it really helped but made me feel better that I was doing something!

my dog had it in August, we got metacam from the vets & gave him manuka honey to soothe his cough. He got much better after a couple of days, but coughed for around a week especially when he got excited

Ours seems to be susceptible to KC and he loves baby tixylix , it could be that he has perfected the cough just to get the spoonful of medicine .

It can be really nasty even in vaccinated dogs.

Try Manuka honey to soothe his throat.

Our 9 month pup had kennel cough a couple of weeks ago. We gave him honey and occasionally some ice cream. He also coughed up phlegm Sad. Loved the honey and ice cream though - it was his favourite ailment so far (and he's had a few).

He was fine in a few days but I think he did just have a mild case. If your dog isn't improving go back to the vet - he may need something stronger to shift it.

My vet prescribed Noroclav and Onsiar for our dog after a kennel cough diagnosis.

It seems to have helped settle her down and she's not as lethargic as she was. Vet said the dog had a tender swollen throat so I am going to try the honey tomorrow, I didn't know that was a thing and I think she'd like it.

Her cough is harsh and leaves her breathless, but thank goodness it seems to have calmed down a good bit today. I think it's a mild case she has too, though the vet said there's a lot of it about.

She hasn't been near other dogs though, we've no idea where she picked it up. We do have another dog though so we're keeping a close eye on her incase she gets it too.

Mine had it in the summer. Our vet prescribed paracetamol (rather than metacam) and codeine for the cough. The issue I wasn’t told is that it is really contagious/infectious so one should apparently keep a dog away from all others whilst unwell and for a week after symptoms stop-the stuff they cough up being particularly likely to infect other dogs. Also I had to wait 3 months before vaccinating (mine wasn’t routinely vaccinated for KC) and because it’s a live vaccine kept away from vulnerable people and dogs for a while post-vaccination.

My dog has recently had KC as well, apparently there's been a lot of it about this year.

I'd go back to the vet, he may have developed a secondary bacterial infection.
