boring question about dogs and beds.

I was just wondering if anyone else's dogs use each others beds?
We have 2 dogs, 1 medium and 1 small, and although they have their own beds - sized appropriately - they both use both beds. Is this normal? I would have expected each dog to prefer their own smell in their bed.

Can't answer from experience but imagine it must be something to do with being pack animals that find comfort in sharing and smelling those they are closest to.

Very normal.

Yes. Mine have a bed each and one bed just doesn't get used at all. If one is in the bed, the other will sleep on the floor or on my bed

lililou · 21/10/2021 20:39

Yes my two have different beds and they each have their favourite that they're in most of the time but occasionally they swap. They both seem fine with this, no jealousy.

pigsDOfly · 22/10/2021 09:53

I would be surprised if they didn't share beds.

My dog sleeps in her own beds - has more than one - on my bed, on the sofa, on the floor or anywhere else she decides is appropriate.

She's currently stretched out on the sofa looking blissful.

I've got a smallish dog and DP has an enormous dog.
There is no way DPs dog could use my dogs bed, but my dog in on DOs dogs bed wherever he gets the chance.
Moves pretty sharpish if DPs dog starts to get on it though.
Sometimes find them both on it together.

Mine are happy to share and often multiple get in one squished instead of in separate ones. My neighbour has a Rottweiler and a jack Russel and I often see them in the garden with the Rottweiler curled in a tiny ball in the mini bed. He does it even when the big bed doesn't have a sprawled jack russel so clearly he just likes it

Well there you go then - very common thing to do! I just thought dogs would be more protective of their own personal space.

In a way of course, it's nice that they can share.

Mine have a bed in each room as well as all the sofas and various blankets they drag off. They sleep where they please tbh, one in my bed, one in DD’s, the other two on the beds or sofas. I think mostly they like being where they have people/other dogs/ smells/ comfort!

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2021 23:42

My two dogs and the cat share the dog beds.

Keladrythesaviour · 24/10/2021 08:05

Haha yes. I have a large sighthound and my MIL has a toy breed. My sighthound has been known to curl up in the toy breed's bed before, to much hilarity.

In my house I'm sure its like human siblings. They know which bed is theirs (because they go to the right bed when sent there) but they like to sit in the others bed and side eye each other Grin
