12 week old night time waking

How much does your 12 week old wake in the night? And when do they start sleeping longer lol. It’s killing me πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

Jinny will have dinner at 5pm ish and a play at the dog park at 6.

She goes bed about 10pm in her crate. She normally goes sleep either straight away or a bark for 5 mins.

She then wakes at 12,2 and then wants to get up at 4/4.30.

I take her for a wee at the 12/2 one and again at 4 but the last one she just barks constantly until I let her out then she will come up stairs into our bed πŸ™ˆ she then will pant and just lay on our bed until we have to her up with her at 5/6 lol.

Its like having a newborn lol

Hmm I wouldn't say that was normal. Mine was waking once at night at 12 weeks and would sleep until DH's alarm went off at 6am.

Is she cold downstairs in her crate? Or lonely? Have you crate trained her properly to be happy to sleep away from you?

I only ask because lots of dogs don't like sleeping away from their owners - what happens if her crate is in your room or on the landing so she can see and smell you? Does she have plenty of blankets and something that smells of you in there?

What breed?
How long have you had her?

It is exactly like having a newborn! Actually it's worse because newborns can't run around!

We took on an unwanted 12 week old puppy a couple of years ago. We don't use cages for our dogs so for the first couple of weeks I slept downstairs with him so I could whizz him outside the second he stirred. That was probably every 2-3 hours I'm afraid!

A 5pm dinner means it's a really long time until breakfast for a small puppy. At 12 weeks we were still feeding 4 times a day with the last meal at 8pm

Oh my goodness - I didn't register this! How many meals are you giving her a day? I'd be doing breakfast, lunch, tea and supper at that age!

This is a really good point. Our last meal at that age was closer to 8pm!

My DD has an 11 week cocker, she has her last meal at 6.45, last wee about midnight, for the last 3 nights she has slept until 7 am.

Jinnybean · 17/10/2021 07:47

I fed her at 6pm snd 9pm!

So last night I bought her upstairs to bed and let her have the run of my bedroom and landing. I didn’t hear a peep out of her all night. And she’s only just woken up and that was because I went for a wee. She hasn’t had an accident anywhere and Iv just taken her out snd she’s weed. We’ve gone back upstairs and she’s chilling with a puffed chicken foot lol

I have a 16 week border terrier. At 12 weeks he has last feed at 6pm, last wee at 11ish and up about 7. Quiet all night in crate downstairs.

I realise I am very lucky though.

He can be a shit in the day (just so I don't sound so smug πŸ˜‚).
