Lost DDog tonight

Just got back from the vets where we sadly had to have our beautiful bulldog put to sleep. She was nearly 14 and we rescued her at 7. She has been going downhill with dementia and blindness over the last year or so and had a stroke last month but seemed to bounce back. Tonight however we noticed her abdomen was swollen so took her to the emergency vet who said there was a tumour on her spleen which had started bleeding and her whole abdomen was full of blood and there was nothing could be done. DH was too upset to stay but I held her as they put the injection in and it was done so fast. Absolutely heartbroken this evening! RIP sweet girl xx

Sorry for the loss of your fur baby, she is absolutely gorgeous.

Wasn't it lucky you came into each others lives back then, how wonderful you got to be together and she was in such good hands. I'm sorry she's gone, my boy went just over a year ago, they never leave your heart though.

I am so sorry to hear about your much-loved dog.

I know exactly how you feel. We recently found out, after several visits and treatments at the vet over a number of months, that our dog had cancer, and chemotherapy was not recommended. We too had to make the heartbreaking decision to have him put to sleep. Although we knew it was the best thing to do, we still felt we had in some way let him down, even though he always had the best of everything.

You rescued your dog and gave him some very happy years. I hope that is some comfort.

I'm so sorry OP. I was devastated when my girl had to leave us. I understand.

It is easy to say you can't lose what you have never had , because if it were my little dog I would be devastated.

You must hold on to the idea that you have done the right thing and she is not suffering & she won't have known what was happening. That does not help a lot I know

What a beautiful girl. I'm so sorry for your loss. I found comfort in the Ralph Site Pet Loss Support Group on FB after I lost my beautiful girl 4 months ago. Losing a loved pet is the hardest thing.

So sorry to hear this. It’s the kindest thing to do when their quality of life has declined so much, putting them through extra pains for a few weeks more is actually crueler. And she lived a long life, happily rescued by you for half of it. Hopefully you can hold on to the happiness you gave her for the past 7 years and remember that you have had her best interests at heart right until the end.

I'm so sorry. It sounds to me like you poured absolutely all of your love into her and gave her the best life ever. She would have spent the best 7 years ever with you.
