Just that really. Had my Romanian rescue dog for six months & he has enhanced my life so much. He's such a character & such a good boy too. He is funny, cheeky, affectionate & clever. I love seeing his face every morning. I never knew I could feel this way about a pet...soppy I know. He is the heart of the household!

Yes they're amazing living beings. Glad you're enjoying your four legged family member.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 24/09/2021 17:55

I knew I'd grow fond of him, but he means so much more than that. It's a very special connection. Unexpected & wonderful. Dogs really are something else.

Awww that sounds so sweet. They really do steal your heart don't they.

Mine is 5 years old and is in a cheeky period where he keeps stealing our shoes to get a bit of attention at dinner time. We have to try not to laugh at him when he comes trotting by with another one Grin

thisplaceisapigsty · 24/09/2021 18:02

Oh yes. I love mine loads. He's almost an adult now and he's turning into such a lovely character and very gentle. Nightmare as a pup, mind you!

PollyRoullson · 24/09/2021 18:02

Ohhhh yes they are fab Grin

LoveFall · 24/09/2021 18:24

They are absolutely the best. Our little one is so loving and gentle, and so nice to cuddle with.

Give them a little love and they give it back a hundred fold.

Woof!

QueenofLouisiana · 24/09/2021 18:25

We are all in Covid isolation and so very glad we adopted our dog over the summer. He has been a source of fun and delight.

PermanentlyDizzy · 24/09/2021 18:31

Absolutely! I haven’t been without a dog for over 30 years and can’t imagine my life without at least one dog in it.

Current, ancient, hound is reverting to naughty puppy antics and makes us laugh every day.

If we don’t give him what he wants immediately he heads into the bathroom and knocks all the shampoo/shower-gels over. When that didn’t work while I was on a video medical appointment with ds the other day, he turned the laptop round so the camera was pointing at him! Thankfully the medical professional was a dog lover and saw the funny side. Grin

He has such a soft/caring nature too. I had a medical episode when I was alone downstairs with him earlier this week. He started pacing up and down next to me and gently poking me in the back with his nose, then lay down alongside me until my dh came downstairs and realised what was happening. He only went, reluctantly, back to his bed when he was convinced dh was in charge of the situation.

Wolfiefan · 24/09/2021 18:32

They are awesome.

MintMatchmaker · 24/09/2021 18:35

They’re the best. They are just full of love and kindness. I intend to have a house full of dogs when I retire!

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 24/09/2021 19:02

Oh I adore hearing this! @PermanentlyDizzy - your dog sounds so full of character & love. It's the companionship that has been the biggest revelation. The house never feels empty & having a dog brings us all together - even my grumpy teenager hangs out with the rest of us more because of wanting to be near him.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2021 19:09

Yep, perfect as a companion.

MissyB1 · 24/09/2021 19:11

I often think I prefer them to people! They are so genuine and innocent, if you love them they will love you back in spades.
This is the darling of our house

MissyB1 · 24/09/2021 19:13

Yikes not meant to show people! 😱

FlorallyBankrupt · 24/09/2021 19:15

They're awesome. When my beloved savage little bastard dog died a couple of years back I thought I'd never have another, but DH wore me down. We got a puppy but throughout all the puppy blues, I resented him because he wasn't her and he never would be. Sad

18 months on - he is just the BEST. He's adorable, hilarious, obedient, friendly, he makes us laugh every day. I just wanna smooch him all the time.

They're amazing and I actually do prefer our dog to most humans despite the fact that he can be tricky at times. He's amazing though. Life is pretty tough right now and he's just such a lovely constant in our lives, he makes us smile every day.

HumphreyCobblers · 24/09/2021 21:40

I really really love my dog so much more than I ever thought possible. She is so sweet and funny and a bit naughty.

Her joy when anyone returns home after even five minutes out of the house is a sight to behold.

Downsize2021 · 24/09/2021 21:50

I had a dog with my ex in a house he owned and for all his faults he knew that she was mine. It's very difficult to rent with a pet in my city so I scrimped and saved for months to build up my savings to buy a flat for her close to the parks and many great local walks near us. Took her on my first date with my now husband and I'm still not sure if it was me or her he actually wanted to marry.. She's simply the best.

Downsize2021 · 24/09/2021 21:53

We see my ex occasionally and at first she was stand offish with him because i was still upset but now, five years later, i chat away to him and she jumps up for cuddles. I think she reads my emotions so carefully and responds like a true bestie.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/09/2021 21:57

They are. Mine is fab. He has been with me by my side all through a shit divorce and it just helped so much. Love him so much.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 24/09/2021 22:30

@MissyB1 - adorable! I'm a single parent & was worried about the extra responsibility...but the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages. I never feel alone & his love for me feels like such an honour.

StillMedusa · 25/09/2021 00:19

I so agree! I got my dog 2.5 years ago.. and no one will ever love me like she does!
She's not the easiest dog in the world' wary of strangers and some dogs, but the greeting I get when I walk through the door... even if I have just popped out to put out the bins Grin is like nothing else!

Pure love in a hairy coat!

Pinkypie86 · 25/09/2021 00:36

I rehomed this beautiful soul and, she has saved me. Quite literally dragged me through at times.
It's only been a year but, she genuinely is the kindest being ever!

6 months in with our rescue here too who came as a foster, left and came back again as a permanent fixture! Definitely got her issues but I’ve spent the past three days in bed and she has stayed by my side the whole time. According to her microchip it’s her birthday soon and the DC want to have a tea party for her Grin
