Attention/frustration barking

My puppy (9 weeks) if he is awake and my older dog is laid down relaxing has started to sometimes play bow at her and then when she doesn’t get up he barks at her!
I assume he is frustrated she isn’t playing with him, is there any way of stopping this behaviour please before it gets too ingrained?

If you stop the pup practising the behaviour whilst your other dog is settled then it won’t continue. So you need to let older dog sleep in peace if pup is playful. Practise calm with pup too so reward nothing, when he’s settled gently and quietly reward - we use gooood and give kibble or a long stroke. Lots of positivity. We had a puppy pen, separates areas (pup from cat) and a stair gate. So you can control where he goes and keep your older dog to sleep on his own.

Our 2.5 year old dog does this. He barks when frustrated, excited or wants attention. I've started teaching him to 'speak',which took about 10 minutes. Now we are working on 'quiet' which is taking considerably longer. I'm hoping he gets it!

If the puppy wishes to play maybe you’ll could play with him instead? Or use it as a good time to do some basic training.

Remove the puppy from the situation and distract with something else.

Put her down for a nap, play with her, do some training, give her a tasty chew etc. but don't let her bother your older dog while she's resting Smile
