Jacket for winter

Which winter jacket do you recommend for a Patterdale (now 8mths old) and is it best to get a jacket with a harness attached or use our usual harness underneath (and jacket has a hole for attachment)?
She's a rough coat patt if that makes a difference and wears a Julius K9 harness.

Any recommendations welcome, thanks Smile

Are you in the UK? I think that most terriers have double coats (of their own fur) to keep them warm and dry so probably don't need anything else.

My Patterdale (course coat; mum was rough, dad smooth) only wears a coat if we’re stopping for a coffee as he gets cold sitting around, on normal walks he doesn’t seem to need one. I found it hard to get one to fit as he’s quite slight and his measurements are more akin to an Italian greyhound, but without the waist.

This is what he ended up with: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07X8H697X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
No photos of him in it as it doesn’t accord with his butch “kill anything” reputation.

I keep my patterdale x clipped really short and he has a variety of equafleece jumpers , coats and suits to suit all occasions , his harness fitness easily over the top .

Unless it's extremely cold with snow and ice, or pouring with rain a young heathy terrier shouldn't really need a coat.

My dog, not a terrier but with long thick fur, wouldn't wear a coat when she was younger, whatever the weather.

On the few occasions I tried to put one on her she'd just refused to walk (something to do with her street cred I suspect).

When she was young she was running around and keeping warm and I think she didn't like being too hot.

Now she's a lady of a 'certain age' she's happy to wear a light raincoat in the rain and a slightly warmer one in the winter.

I have a patterdale cross and I can honestly say she's never needed a jumper. She's crossed with a springer spaniel so she's never still long enough to get cold!!

Very often mine wears a jumper / suit for the convenience of cleaning him up when he’s been running about in mud and puddles , it’s much easier to put a suit / coat in the washing machine than the dog . With equafleece they don’t seem to get hot in them at all .

It depends what kind of jacket you want really?

With any coat, no need for a harness hole etc. The harness can go over the top of them all.

Do you need a jacket? Some dogs don't feel the cold. That said, I have a variety of coats for my cocker. Probably the best all rounder is the Equafleece, it's a jumper, waterproof (we have a specific waterproof coat so haven't used it for that) and if they get wet it can be used as a drying coat.

My terrier has an equafleece jumper. It's really good. Like Flora says , it keeps them clean too which is why I like the equafleece better than a coat. It covers their tummy. My dog does get cold, she shivers sometimes in the winter but will roll around in snow.
