Keep dog's crate or not?

Hello! I have a 2 y old 30kg dog. She was in her crate every night as a small puppy but now sleeps between "her" sofa, a raised dog bed, and occasionally the crate, with a blanket over it to make it nice and cosy. Her crate is HUGE and I only have a small car so even when we have gone away (not much tbf because of covid) we haven't been able to take the crate, so it's not really portable. She sleeps ok elsewhere.

I'm now thinking about whether to keep the crate at all, as it takes up so much space. Has anyone got rid of their dog's crate and regretted it? I think maybe I'm over thinking this! Any advice welcome.

Thanks

We kept the crate but put it away somewhere just in case. If ddog needs to be contained for any medical reason in the future then it's there if needed.

Does yours fold flat?

I use ours camping as I realised my dog is much happier in it. But it folds flat.

We kept our Labrador's XL crate, used it for another puppy eight years later and planning to use it shortly for another. In the mean time, it's folded flat in the box room.

Can't you just fold it up and store it in the garage?

She doesn't need a crate in the car. Mine travels on the back seat.

Thanks all, Yes, I think folding up and storing it is the best option. Smile

iced she doesn't use a crate in the car, but it doesn't even fit in when folded so we can't take it with us to use when away.

Spaniels good luck with your new puppy! Definitely worth keeping 'just in case!'
