Should dogs be allowed to lick babies faces? Our 1 year old lab has taken a fancy to licking our 7 month old all over... She loves it!

Honestly no, especially after a walk where there have been cow pats

Branleuse · 19/09/2021 08:39

No. Its gross. Dont encourage it

JayAlfredPrufrock · 19/09/2021 08:40

Ew no. On the odd occasion I let my dog lick a plate there’s a horrible slimy patina that’s hard to get rid of. Takes boiling water and detergent.

icedcoffees · 19/09/2021 08:52

My dog licks my face but I'm an adult and able to assess the risk for myself.

Personally it's not the hygiene that would bother me, as babies/toddlers are pretty gross anyway, but I wouldn't want my dog to have it's open mouth right next to a babies' face. It just takes a second for the baby to scream, cry or hurt the dog by accident and you could have a bite on your hands.

mellongoose · 19/09/2021 08:54

NO!! Dogs lick their bums. Dogs lick other dogs' bums. Dogs lick where other dogs have weed. Why would you want all that on your baby?!
😵‍💫

Mamamamasaurus · 19/09/2021 09:11

Absolutely not, it's disgusting. Dogs shouldn't be allowed to lick faces full stop.

Floralnomad · 19/09/2021 09:23

I wouldn’t let a dog lick my face so I certainly wouldn’t let one lick anyone else’s face .

LawnFever · 19/09/2021 09:27

No, I don’t let my dogs lick me or anyone else, definitely not a baby.

Gross and potentially unsafe too, just no.

GoodnightGrandma · 19/09/2021 09:28

No.

StarfishDish · 19/09/2021 09:43

Thankyou for all of your views Smile

@icedcoffees I'm the same thinking as you. The hygiene isn't what bothers me - it was only last week she was trying to chew on one of his dog toys! But dogs can never be trusted 100% Smile

I don’t think it’s a huge issue... a licking dog isn’t just going to suddenly bite and if you live with a dog you share the germs anyway, makes no odds of it’s licking or not.

I’d possibly stop it because I don’t like being licked in the face, so I’d not want to encourage face licking, but it wouldn’t actually bother me in itself.

StarfishDish · 19/09/2021 10:28

@tabulahrasa She seems to like it, always laughing and grinning after. He licks her toys and she does the same if we miss one of his toys! She dropped a cheese straw on the floor and picked it straight up and put it in her mouth 🙈

I wouldn't let my dog lick a baby's face but then I don't let her lick my face, not that she tries.

Dog's are scavengers, their mouths are full of bacteria.

They pick up and eat all sorts of nasty stuff when they're out and about: dead/rotting bodies of other animals, other animals poo, bits of old food, why would you want that on your baby's face?

Nothing wrong with being around and living with a dog but licking faces is just horrible.
