Will my dog remember my DS1?

My girl was 9 months old when DS1 went to Australia to be with his finacee.. a fortnight before Covid hit :(
Now he's booking tickets for the end of next March .. it is looking hopeful that he and his fiancee can come home for a month then (where he will be hugged to death and I shall be an emotional mess!)

It will be more than two years since he left, unable to return. Do you think she will remember him when he walks in? She loved him to bits, but was only a puppy.

In my experience it depends on the dog.

Has your son changed much since he went, e.g. shaved his beard or grown his hair? If he has, it may take her longer to recognise him. It also may take her longer to recognise him if she is wary of strangers, because she is less likely to investigate him.

She is wary of strangers..her breed are. His hair is sadly receding like a tide (poor lad.. his Dad went bald in his 20s too) but his beard hasn't changed. I am hoping she'll bark and then go 'OMG it's YOU!!!!'

I'm a dog walker and went 10 months without walking some of clients due to furlough/WFH - they ALL remembered me and went absolutely batshit when they saw me Grin

But it depends on the dog, the breed, and how much your DS has changed in that time. I'd be prepared for her to be wary at first.

Yep I will bet money that she does. He wont care about the hair line -Smile

he - she!

Has she heard his voice since he's been away, e.g. over Skype? How does she react to it, if she has?

A man has recently been reunited with his ddog - I think it was 10 years... That ddog knew him instantly!!
