Neutering whilst under for leg X-ray?

Hi

It’s looking like I need to have my dogs leg stayed to check the plates and pin in his front leg as one part might be irritating him.

I also want to have him neutered (he is 3 years old and weights 9kg)

Is there any reason a vet might refuse to neuter him as he’d be sedated anyway? I really want to avoid him being sedated too often and this will also reduce the costs (pre existing condition with his leg so no insurance)

Has anyone had this done? Any vets out there who can say if this is likely to be feasible?

Many thanks

I don’t see why not. Our dog was having an X-ray under sedation so the vet also did a biopsy of something that was bothering the dog at the same time so she wouldn’t have to be sedated again.
It did have to be prearranged though due to timings so do request it in advance rather than turning up for the X-ray & then requesting the extra procedure.

Yes should be fine I think my dog many years ago was done at the same time as having a hernia repair was the vet who suggested it.

vet here - no reason why not in principle, but given the staffing shortages and general difficulties of veterinary practice at the moment, it might be hard to fit in the extra procedure, as neutering would mean a full anaesthetic, which might not be needed for an Xray alone, and obviously it will take longer. If you'd like both done then ask your vets ASAP and please don't be angry if they struggle to accommodate the extra request in current circumstances.

Plenty of vets will do it - I can't see it being a problem as long as you're happy to pay for the full anaesthetic required.

Thanks everyone! I’ve spoken to the vet and they’ve agreed to do the neutering and X-ray when under :)
