Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

*back not Bach 😂

BaconAndAvocado · 14/09/2021 08:43

I didn't make it upstairs last night....Newboy slept from about 9 in the evening so I thought he wouldn't sleep so much in the night.

He still woke 3 times but went straight back to his crate to sleep after.

I've decided to accept that it's going to be a bit of a shitshow until:

  1. He can get out for walks.
  2. His bladder is big enough to hold his wee all night.
Lifeishitsometimes · 14/09/2021 08:49

Mine crashes out after breakfast and school run as well. Frequently on the school run.

I slept in a real bed for the night last night but it was punctuated by yapping at 530am... Oh well!

Sleep deprived sympathy vibes to all ...

Returnoftheowl · 14/09/2021 08:55

Judging by everyone else our pup is well behind Confused
He can do sit, lay down & paw and we're working on his recall and loose lead walking.

MightyMeerkat · 14/09/2021 09:05

A 4.30am toilet break for us last night. So annoying though as I let her out and then she came in and did a wee on the kitchen floor. Then she wanted to play. Finally went back to sleep at 5.30 and then up again at 7.

Just driven to doggy daycare and she went to sleep on the way - she then growled at me for disturbing her when we got there! Does anyone else get growled at when they go to move pup? She did the same thing when I moved her off the sofa and into her bed last night.

cheeseisthebest · 14/09/2021 09:25

A 1.30 wake up here and totally crazy nippy time for 90 minutes! Then had to sleep by his crate until about 4.30.
A puke this morning too but he did get up later and had breakfast later so maybe hunger puke. Seems fine otherwise.
Fast asleep now, wish I could do the same!

Rainy days with a young pup were horrible so feeling for you all today - the best thing we did this summer was replace our grass with artifical stuff, no more muddy paws!

TheBigMacDougal · 14/09/2021 10:11

Sorry to those having rubbish nights ☹️

Mac is definitely wiped out after his daycare escapades yesterday. He’s snoozed the last 90 minutes after our morning walk and isn’t even bothering to have his normal FOMO and following me around 😳. I’m getting plenty of work done!

LadyCatStark · 14/09/2021 10:44

I think that Billy is quite far behind other pups with his training too 🙁.

He’s nearly 6 months and can do:

Sit
Down (as in lie down)
Wait (our version of stay)
Place (his bed in the living room)
Off (we use this a lot)
Here (our version of come) or recall to the whistle
Bring it
Leave
Both paws
Feet (sits between our feet)

That’s it really. Our beginners class only really focussed on loose lead walking, recall, leave and stay and the next level hasn’t started yet so I don’t really know what I’m doing!

cheeseisthebest · 14/09/2021 11:12

Cheesepup can only do sit and recall is hit and miss. Actually he can do wait. Will see what happens at the classes.
He's quiet today. Hope he's ok. Seems to be getting frightened quite a bit at the moment, I did so much socialisation with him but anything new now he doesn't like.

Pup is definitely not impressed by the rain. Doesn't want to go on his walk and won't go out the garden 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wolfcub · 14/09/2021 13:57

Ladycat I wouldn't worry

Wolfpup can do - sit, down, off (as in get off a level of furniture), no!!!!, drop, mixed bag on leave it, find it, wait, go (to cross a road), mat.

I think that's it. He's nearly 5 months

TerrierOrTerror · 14/09/2021 14:03

At around three months we had only really master her name, sit and paw. Lie took a long time.

At 12 months she can do reliably:

  • sit
  • lie
  • stay
  • settle (relaxed lie until released/sleeps)
  • paw and other (one for left and right)
  • beg (both paws at same time)
  • round and twist (spin but in different directions)
  • dead and bang (dead but lying on two different sides, great for examining)
  • boop (nose touch)
  • snoot (nose through harness / gap)
  • at my side (loose lead please attention on me when on my left)
  • by me (as above but on my right)
  • middle (stands between legs)
  • down (four feet on floor, still a work in progress when excited though)
  • off (get off whatever you are climbing on)
  • paws on (an object e.g. Tree)
  • goat (stand on object e.g. Tree stump - only introduced this just before her birthday but she loves doing it)
  • leave
  • drop
  • on your mat
  • in your cave (crate!)
  • on your bed

Didn't know she could do so much until I wrote it down!

Wolfcub · 14/09/2021 14:06

Ooo yes I forget in your den, bedtime (go upstairs) and bed (in crate) also come for recall but that's pretty shaky

tizwozliz · 14/09/2021 14:35

Feel so fortunate that pup isn't phased by the rain at all. She's currently snoozing wearing her ruff and tumble coat after our lunchtime walk and looks very sweet.

opalescent · 14/09/2021 14:51

Great success with a yakkers chew this afternoon! Very sturdy, doesn't stink, has busied opalpup for a good 1/2 hour so far!

cheeseisthebest · 14/09/2021 14:58

Yankees chews are great!

cheeseisthebest · 14/09/2021 14:58

Yakkers!

OP posts:
Returnoftheowl · 14/09/2021 15:28

Mine wasn't too fussed about the yakkers chew... However the JR ostrich bone is the best thing ever at the moment!

GuyFawkesDay · 14/09/2021 16:02

The yakker is not the success I thought it would be bearing in mind he loves cheese so much! Whimzees the same. They occupy for a bit but he really gets close to finishing one.

He does really love the JR beef bladder twists 🤢, the lamb spaghetti... and he tried a rabbit ear and a duck thing from the dogdeli which he loved. I think an ostrich bone or a tendon might float his boat. He has a new split antler he seems to have taken too, and the olive wood is good too. The masses of chews scattered around the place are my (probably vain) attempts to stop him chewing furniture 😂

We are now 4 nights into 8hrs uninterrupted sleep. Is this it....Blooming hope so!!! He's done really well loose lead walking on school run with me feeding his treats as he does it. Getting him to sit at roads too, with mixed success without bribery 🤣

Slowly getting fewer inside puddles but it'll come together. At least we have wood floors downstairs 🙄

567and · 14/09/2021 17:52

Awful day for accidents here! He’s not wanting to go outside so he’s done loads of wees in the house and also pooped on the floor. 🤦‍♀️

We did finally take him out for a little walk though and he loved it. Came back in and did a wee in the hall. Tomorrow will be a better day 🤞

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 14/09/2021 18:32

@tizwozliz lovely video of Tizpup. Are you happy with the perfect fit harness? I'm thinking ruff and tumble coat but want him to get nearer full size first.

DH waking to pup at 6.30am and I'm sleeping until 7am. Can't complain.

I'm struggling with work and life...this is my only complaint.

opalescent · 14/09/2021 18:37

Those of you who work from home- how do you arrange the day to accommodate work and pups?
I find it tough. I generally give opalpup a round-the block walk first thing, lunchtime and evening. I allow for a couple of short play or training sessions mid morning and mid afternoon...but other than that, I really have to get on with work! Pup does snooze, but we still have bits of the day where he stands and expectantly barks at me, and I have to crack on....

tizwozliz · 14/09/2021 19:45

Yes, happy with the perfect fit (would have preferred a red one but there was a limited colour choice when we ordered). We've just changed the girth piece to the next size up, so got about 5 weeks wear before needing to replace one part at about 10 pounds so I think works out better for us than buying cheap harnesses as they grow.

We have friends with a cocker spaniel 10 days younger than our pup so her ruff and tumble coat can be passed on when she needs the next size up as I think it'll fit a full grown spaniel.

cheeseisthebest · 14/09/2021 19:50

I work from home he comes on school run and sees a few people up at school then mooches about at home and has a nap. Early lunchtime walk and I do play a few times with him.
Afternoons are bit trickier, if I do school pick up he does that too. My sons headteacher adores him and I have suggested he can be the school mascot!
