I have two dogs at present. I'm considering getting a rescue boxer. I've had experience of German Shepherds, Staffies, American Bulldogs, American Akita and various mongrels. It's a breed I've always loved but it'd be helpful to hear others' experience of them. TIA

I've got two of the daft buggers and they're great! Both female. If you can handle lots of slobber you will completely fall in love! They're both affectionate and don't have a bad bone in their body.

CallMeNutribullet · 30/08/2021 15:51

In my example they are wonderful idiots.

icedcoffees · 30/08/2021 17:32

I love boxers but they're absolutely mad, lol. Big, strong and excitable - but if you've got experience with big breeds I can't see them being too much of a challenge for you.

They do shed though and be prepared to get covered in drool Grin

I've had three, all boys. Their enthusiasm for life and the here and now is infectious although the overwhelming excitement over following you to the toilet or indeed anywhere can occasionally become a little wearing😀

You won't go a day without laughing at their stupidity or indeed a day without saying "why would you have thought that would be a good idea".

All been 30kg cuddle monsters and while all three completely different with their own particular boxer traits that could make them bloody nightmares all beautiful dogs. Only warning would be be careful they're addictive.

Mental.
Absolutely, completely and utterly mental.
Rather like poodles they seem to bounce rather than walk

Auntieobem · 31/08/2021 08:41

They are the best dogs in the world! We have a nine month old white boxer - she's fab.

Please tell me about boxers.
Feilin · 31/08/2021 09:06

Boxers are amazing. The daftest big cuddle monsters ever. Mine used to sit up beside me on the sofa legs stretched out head on my shoulder . Big lad at 40 kg but the best friend we ever had.

Hdhdjejdj · 31/08/2021 09:11

Wonderful dogs. Think they are human. Daft as a brush and soft as butter.

polishthatfloor · 31/08/2021 09:21

My rescue had been used as a breeding bitch then dumped. She didn't have any of the daftness, didn't know how to play, would be wary of strangers but she was a gentle loyal soul and I adored her. And now I'm crying because I miss that girl so much!

Other boxers I've know are like permanent 3 year olds Smile

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 31/08/2021 09:45

Lovely, clever, bouncing, enthusiastic idiots who KNOW they are human.
I have never laughed as much as when i had a boxer.

They have slightly ruined other breeds for me, as although i would like to get a large breed (great dane, mastiff etc) i’m not convinced they’ll have as much personality and i would miss that so much.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 31/08/2021 09:47

Ps i should have said - we were warned when we first got the boxer that they are “the Peter Pans of the dog world” which was true - she behaved like a young puppy until 6/7. Ours lived to 12 though so had a good length life for a medium dog.

DrFoxtrot · 31/08/2021 09:54

Boxers are absolutely lovely, as everybody else says. I remember hoovering around my old boxer, I bent over to move something and heard a strange noise. I turned around and the Hoover attachment had sucked up the dog's ear and it was flapping in the tube. He was just sat there, accepting that it was happening Grin. Brilliant dog.

CasaBonita · 31/08/2021 10:09

I have labs but if I didn't, I'd have boxers. All the ones I've met have been absolutely gorgeous dogs who have the funniest mannerisms. When one of mine was a puppy she would break into our neighbours garden to play with their boxer Grin

Charliebong · 31/08/2021 10:15

Echo all of the above comments...my female boxer was an absolute joy.

LittleMysSister · 31/08/2021 14:26

Boxers are the sweetest, the first 2 dogs I had growing up where boxers and they are just the loveliest dogs. Boisterous, lots of moulting and lots of slobber, but you couldn't get a friendlier breed :)

Only warning would be that both of ours died around 2 due to health problems, which unfortunately can be common in boxers.

They're the best though.

NiceTwin · 31/08/2021 14:35

My favourite family dog when growing up was a Boxer, I adored her.
She was a sensitive soul, which wasn't great as my Mum and Dad were very shouty. She spent much of her time in my bedroom with me, avoiding the noise.
Bloody loved that dog.
