My ancient yard boots have bitten the dust after years of wear.

Need a pair of warm, mudproof boots for winter walks in the countryside. Will be doing fields, woods and muddy towpath walks.

Wellies, country boots, walking boots.....I don't know where to start!

Happy to pay for decent quality.

Cheap wellies from the agricultural suppliers with an extra layer of woolly socks - quick to get on and off when in a hurry. The wellies cost about £35, come with a 12-month guarantee, and last about 18 months.

For longer walks I had a pair of Scarpas which were really comfy but they split after one winter. I now have a pair of Meindls which aren't quite as comfy (no toe wriggle-room to speak of) but they are waterproof and bearing up well.

The best boots I ever had were a pair of Timberlands which lasted about 20 years.

I have Hunter Chelsea boots, they're rubber ankle length wellies but just look like navy boots at a glance. They were so comfortable from the first wear and after a wipe down look brand new after 18 months of heavy wear.
Think I paid £65 in a sale.

I have Aigle, neoprene lined, with the slight heel and the adjustable calf as I too am big of calf. Can walk miles in rain and deep mud and never an issue. They are expensive but I've had the same pair for 5 years with no issues.

@Jamandlemoncurd

Ariats.
Definitely. Ariat H20 telluride boots are fantastic. I ride too, so these are on my feet all day for a lot of the time.

I just wear normal hiking boots. I buy scarpa I live rural wouldn't entertain wellies of any sort as we have no paths so I need decent foot support which you don't get with wellies.

@Bootdilemma yep they are totally waterproof! (FitFlop Wonderwelly)

I think the secret to the perfect dog walking boots is adding a pair of sheepskin insoles to whatever boot you go for. I've had a pair of neoprene Le Chameaus with the zip for the last 6 years and they're just starting to show signs of cracking at the heel - very tempted by those Quebecs...
