Miniature Schauzers

Hi Mumsnetters. We are thinking of getting a miniature schnauzer to join our family of 4. Does anyone have one and how do they find them? Are they energetic but also happy to relax? Some mention that are a bit aloof is that true? I love their cute faces 😀

The only two we know are from a friend who is a breeder. They require lots of grooming are barky and very aloof. One of hers is dangerous with kids despite being well socialised etc. They aren't a breed I'd choose with children.

Shock and Grin at the suggestion my wee doggy is dangerous to kids!

We have a 15 week old mini schnauzer & like others have said ours is very friendly & loving. She is still testing us a bit with her very sharp puppy teeth still & at times I think that our repeated growls & other training is just falling on her cloth ears. Roll on the adult teeth & that chewing/biting reduces.
She gets the zoomies early evening & it can be very funny to watch her race around with toys, then she collapses, sleeps all night. I haven't noticed a lot of barking, but we have friends with an older dog from the same breeder & she taps a LOT at strangers walking past.
I work 3 days a week but between us both our pup isnt here very long by herself which I think is fine, I want her to be able to amuse herself for a couple of hours or so. She gets lots of attention though & loves walks & playing outdoors.

My ms bitch is 6. Very affectionate, currently snuggled up to me in bed. Needs a couple of 30mins walks a day but most importantly to socialize with other dogs, she loves company. She doesn't really bark. Loves going to the pub! Brilliant with children. She can be left alone, in fact I noticed during lockdown she used to take herself off to find her own space.

@Guineapigbridge our ms can only be by herself for a couple of hours, she needs to be with people. Schnauzers are sociable dogs in my experience. Our girly goes to doggy daycare when I’m at work.
