Moving house with a rescue dog - tips needed!

I have a very ‘sensitive’ rescue dog.
We’re moving house next month and putting him in kennels isn’t really an option, he’d be very unsettled.
To make it worse we are actually moving out of our house, into a rented flat (and it’s a flat share, which I think will unsettle him as he’s not normally around many people) before moving into the house in a few weeks once renovations are done
We have a dog sitter for the few hours we actually move. And the person we are moving In with is a friend and is very understanding and knows our dog.
But is there anything I can do to help him settle and help it go more smoothly.

He gets very stressed and fearful and I want to do everything I can to make him feel better. Long term the move is much better for him as he’ll have a big garden, more space and a better quality of life, but I feel so guilty right now!!

We also have a real issue with barking when someone is at the door and i thought before the rented / next home become part of ‘his territory’ it may be a good time to tackle those issues?
We had been on top of it before lockdown but as no one came to the door for so long, it’s now REALLY bad, but we didn’t think it was worth training when we’re about to move anyway (and frankly I haven’t really got the headspace) it would be positive reinforcement training - but would that be too much to add into the mix if he’s stressed already? / how would I even go about this

Is it far away you're moving into the flat share? If not, it would be worth making regular visits and building him his own "den" there now so when he at least goes there it's more familiar and less stressful.

I would get an Adaptil plug in and maybe try the dorwest valerian tablets and liquid. Might help a bit with the transition.
