Licking nothing...

Anyone else have a dog who licks/chews often? I don't mean his fur. It's like he's eating when there's no food in his mouth. He doesn't seem in any discomfort. Could it be a tooth problem or something emotional even? He's 12.

This happened to a friends dog. I'm sure the vet said it was dementia.

Mine does this but it's mostly at night or in the early morning and we think it's acid indigestion so he gets a small snack to help.
