Is it normal to assume?

So I've just got back from my walk with my dog and met a nice lady on the way.. our dogs sniffed noses and got to know each other and I asked the breed (wasn't familiar)... anyway she told me her dog was a cross between a Bichon and a shitzu. Very cute and well mannered... anyways she didn't ask me, not that it matters, however she did say 'Oh he's definitely a rescue isn't he?'

What does a rescue look like lol.. I was a bit taken aback, I just said 'erm..' she then said 'he has that look to him...'

Again, very odd. Like I say, she was a nice lady, her dog was cute but I'm just wondering if this is an odd thing to say? My dad actually has a rescue lab so I'm sure any dog can end up in a rescue... Lol.. picture attached of my little munchkin 🥰

Well it’s a bit weird but to be honest you see so many of the sake dogs now (cockapoo is most prevalent here, they’re everywhere) that any dog I see that isn’t one of the generics I might well assume has come from a rescue.

And I’d respect you more as an owner because of it

That’s a really weird thing to say, any breed, crossbreed or Heinz57 can be from rescue these days. Perhaps she just thought he wasn’t one of the KC recognised breeds so assumed you hadn’t bought him as a puppy. But then, neither is hers so I’d have been very tempted to retort if hers was from rescue

Oh yes yours is of course a rescue. It has two ears two eyes, a nose and four legs just like hers

She was probably pissed because you didn't instantly know that her dog was that well known breed a shitshon 🤣

I've just remembered that a little while ago we were out walking our shitzu pup and a lady with a spaniel said, what is it? I told her he was a shihtzu and she said are you sure? He looks more like a pekingese! I said oh right thanks. Some people!

To be fair mine is more like a bloody Jack Russell, he loves digging 🙄

People are weird. I have 2 dogs, 2 different breeds, the sameish size with a short coat but that's about where the similarity ends and people ask me all the time if they are siblings/the same breed. When I say no one is x the other is y they say 'Are you sure ' like I am trying to trick them.

@aerosocks his ears are epic, I love them. They were tiny floppy things when we first got him, I never expected them to get so big lol 😂

Weirdest thing I've experienced on a dog walk... farmer driving his old Land-rover across a field came to an abrupt halt, then starting reversing back towards me. I was freaking out thinking I was about to get shouted at, as I know he's got cows. He wound down is window and said "lovely dog."

Quite an odd thing to say.

But we have had people not believe doggy 2 & 3 are rescues. Apparently, they aren't nervous enough. 🤷‍♀️

My dog is a Spanish Water Dog (got the KC registration to prove it) and twice random strangers have refused to accept he isn't a labradoodle.
Why would I lie? People are strange...
