Anyone know Brighton dog friendly beaches?

Hello,
Going camping with kids and dog near Brighton tomorrow. We want to go to a dog friendly beach in the evening and ideally have fish and chips/other decent takeaway on the beach. Happy to drive a bit to get to a good place. Anyone know anywhere?

The beaches along the peer all allow dogs

XelaM · 16/08/2021 17:56

The peer itself doesn’t, but all the cafes along the beach are dog-friendly

mumtoboyscanterbury · 16/08/2021 18:04

@XelaM I thought only certain bits did in the summer? Are there decent stretches for dogs (and kids!) to run and play? Thanks.

Where’s the campsite? Saltdean has free parking, a decent chippy (but a bit of a walk from the beach) and some of the beaches are dog friendly.

@mumtoboyscanterbury We went to the stretch of beach closest to the peer and there were loads of dogs and kids.

And we parked in the card park by the Hilton hotel. Very expensive but very close to the beach

Thank you!
@Hobbes8 Rottingdean is the nearest beach to campsite. I don’t know the area at all.

Saltdene’s probably a good shout from where you are, as pp suggested.

Rottingdean and saltdean are only about a mile apart and you can walk from one to the other on the undercliff. You can park at saltdean lido for free, or there’s a cheap long stay car park on the coast road at rottingdean.

If you go to saltdean there’s a tunnel through to the beach. The section of beach directly in front of the tunnel isn’t dog friendly, but there’s dog beaches either side (if there isn’t a no dogs sign at the entrance then it’s fine). If it’s low tide you can walk all the way along the beach between saltdean and rottingdean, but there’s a bit of clambering to do and it can be a little slippery. Otherwise the undercliff path takes you all the way to Brighton marina. I take my dogs off lead on the undercliff but you need to watch out for cyclists.

Fish and chips wise, the best chippy is on lustrells vale in saltdean, but that’s about 10 minutes walk from the beach. There’s a closer chippy on longridge avenue but it’s not as nice, or there’s one in rottingdean near the white horse pub (not a great pub for food but has a nice terrace for drinks).

Amazing! Thanks so much for such a useful reply @Hobbes8!

You’re welcome! Friston forest is a nice doggy place too about 40 minutes away.

From the beginning of May until the end of September most central beaches in Brighton are not 'dog friendly'.

The map that LimeSodaTwist has link to will show you exactly where you can take a dog.

MrsFin · 16/08/2021 20:33

It's pier not peer.

Ah MrsFin I was so tempted to point that out. I was hoping someone else would do it for me though. Thank you Grin

mumtoboyscanterbury · 16/08/2021 20:42

Not really! Any dog friendly places to recommend? 😄
