New documentation after Brexit to Northern Ireland £175 [shock]

Have a perfectly valid EU passport but needed to get the new stupid document for going to see family in NI! We usually go abroad to France camping and that would probably be cheaper, I know the same, but why why why do I need a stupid new document to go somewhere supposedly in the same country? Makes me so angry and my dog is fully up to date with his vaccines, including Rabies but has to take a worming tablet and get stressed out getting checked over by the Vet for only £175

We usually go every Christmas and summer on the ferry and now I am totally stressing out. I am actually a European passport holder, so I am going to bring the EU passport just in case...

Anyone done the journey recently? This time we're driving up to Scotland and taking the ferry from there

Unfortunately our PM decided to put a border in the Irish Sea, despite saying that he would never do that…over his dead body. I think I read that if you go over to NI before October (before the protocol kicks in?) you won’t need one of the new Animal Health Certificates and you could get a NI issued pet passport while you’re over there so your pet could travel back and forth on that in future. There is an Animal Health Certificate group on FB that may be useful for you.

Been this month, we didn’t get any of it done and no paperwork is being currently checked. The documentation isn’t being checked until October. You can ring the Daera www.daera-ni.gov.uk/ and they will confirm nothing is being checked.

See a few paragraphs down it’s the first of October www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/travelling-pets#toc-0

I wrote to my MP, bloody Brexit 😡

It’s mad isn’t it. We’re off to Spain in October so will have to get the new animal health certificate (£175). Our vet has suggested we get a EU Spanish pet passport whilst we are out in Spain (we have an apartment in Spain) so have an address.

I read that vets in Spain give a rabies jab that is only valid for one year so, to keep your EU pet passport valid, you would have to visit yearly to get your dog re jabbed. Might not apply to ALL vets in Spain, I'm not sure. Areas of France give a 3 year jab like us. Not sure about other EU countries. There is an AHC group on FB that is very informative.

@Inacountrygarden thanks. We have a holiday home in Spain so go twice a year. Incidentally the rabies jabs in U.K. and Spain are the same, Spain just gives them yearly. They are licensed in the U.K. for 3 yearly. Our Spanish vet says Spain massively over vaccinates its pets.
