Does this look like the face of a puppy who just chewed a hole in his new bed within 10 minutes of getting it home? Because it IS. ConfusedAngry

The new bed has now been put inside the tough but probably less snuggly waterproof cover that you can see in the picture - it is supposed to be in the car with an old cot mattress inside, but he’ll just have to cope without it (there are other comfy things in the boot as well).

Argh, I know they’re cute and all, but bloody puppies! 🙈

@opalescent butternut is really good- apparently humans could eat it, it's so natural! H went off after a few months but so far B loves it.

I've got a code that gives you 50% your first box, and 25% off your second, if anyone wants it.
@MightyMeerkat in the same (or very similar!) boat!
Collected our 8 week old cocker spaniel yesterday. Her name is Mindy ❤️.
So far she's been amazing. Let the kids cuddle her endlessly all afternoon. She napped on and off. We tried crating her in the kitchen last night, but she was just too upset after only a few moments, so we moved the crate into our bedroom. She whimpered a little and then pretty much slept till 6am. Hoping very much it wasn't a one off!

Im amazed though, at how much it feels like having a baby again- you really can't leave them can you! And she is so playful this morning 😂 😴
She's lovely!

I might try moving the crate tonight. She wouldn't settle in it once the door was locked. I ended up letting her fall asleep on me and then carefully moving her to her crate when she was zonked out. Still woke up half a dozen times for the toilet though. So tired today!

Brownlongearedbat · 09/08/2021 15:22

This is Ralph, a 13 week old Yorkie. I bought him as company for my 4 and a half year old toy poodle. I was going to get a second dog when she was 2, but I couldn't face dealing with another puppy until recently - yes, it took me that long to get over it. Ralph will definitely be the last in a lifetime of puppies, many of them Yorkies, as I am getting on a bit now. He sits and comes to call already, and sleeps in a crate in the bedroom. My other dog is very gentle with him and they play a lot together - in fact, he is the rough one, a typical terrier. However cute and cuddly he looks he only likes cuddles if he's half asleep! Much rather have a really rough game or rip something apart.

Oh that puppy is SO cute!! Good luck!!!

I visited my cousin today. They've got a fair few dogs (working farm ones). Adult dogs were kept away apart from their lovely old terrier and H had over an hour's fun with their 2 new 8 week old puppies (who are twice his size but he gave as good as he got!). It was hilarious. Great socialisation as we know that adults all vaxxed but H got some really good "how to deal with other dogs" time.

And he slept til 7am. Hallelujah!! Up once at 2am and then I woke up thinking he was whining but he was fast asleep and having a noisy dream 😂

opalescent · 09/08/2021 18:07

@MightyMeerkat good luck, keep us posted. I'm under no illusions about that fact that last night may have been a fluke, brought about by her exhausting day!!

LadyCatStark · 09/08/2021 19:54

Super proud of Billy today! We went to Stanley Park in Blackpool so that DS could BMX and he was such a good boy. He got to play with and say hi to a few other dogs and he settled nicely to watch the bikes.

Then we had puppy class tonight and he had to recall by running past 4 other dogs which he did 3/3 times! He’s so funny though as at exactly 6:45 he decided it was time to go home just like the last class 😂. He’ll certainly sleep tonight!

GuyFawkesDay · 09/08/2021 20:07

Oh I love Stanley Park. Spent many of my Weekends there as a kid at Fylde horse show or playing hockey on the astro.

Glad Billy was a good boy.

H was a star today. 1.5hr each way car trip....slept the lot.

Though the Knobhead fell off a raised planter in the garden onto the patio and he seems a bit stuff when he trots. Will keep an eye on him and hopefully it's just a pulled muscle.

Cookiedough41 · 09/08/2021 20:18

Can I join the pack? .We collected our now 9 week old lab last week. I was wondering how everyone is socialising their pup before they can go out for walks? He's a big pup so I don't fancy carrying him all the time for the next 3-4 weeks or so!

tizwozliz · 09/08/2021 20:26

@Cookiedough41 - we did some observations from the back of the car (pic upthread), sat on a bench in the town centre (carried 100m or so from the car), pet shop we put her in the trolley on some vet bed, tea room we sat outside with vetbed for her to sit on. Our road is quite busy so we did a lot of observing from the front garden, carried initially and then on a lead on the driveway. We also had various friends visit in the garden.

LadyCatStark · 09/08/2021 20:26

@Cookiedough41 I used to take Billy to the park and we went on the big circle swing and watched the world go by 😂.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/08/2021 21:05

We've been to the village shop, the park and sat on the bench/my lap, had a carry round the market and today been to see friends with fully vaxxed dogs and more puppies.

Trying to do regular car journeys too. Next week we are going round the local area finding fields of cows/sheep etc

opalescent · 09/08/2021 21:58

Question: Mindy is very sleepy in the evenings from about 8pm (she's only 8 weeks). Should I be trying to wake her up for a bit before putting her in her crate at 11ish? I'm not sure I'll be able to?!
She's had lots of play today, plus injection at the vet and a trip to pets at home.

tizwozliz · 09/08/2021 22:02

I'd just take her out for a wee before putting her in the crate. Ada generally naps from 8 until 10:30. Quick trip out for last wees then into the crate for bed.

opalescent · 09/08/2021 22:11

@tizwozliz that's good to know, thank you. How old is Ada? Has that been fairly consistent?

tizwozliz · 09/08/2021 22:19

Ada's nearly 13 weeks now, her evening meal is at 7.30 and she generally starts her evening napping shortly afterwards.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/08/2021 22:28

Hamish the same. Snoozes from about 8pm onwards with occasional trip out to loo. Yesterday we had zoomies on the dark too!

I've just taken him to the loo and having a quick play before bed, though he's looking very tired after today!!!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 10/08/2021 05:42

@Cookiedough41 my pup is also 9 week lab. We drive somewhere busy and carry him a short distance to a bench to watch people, traffic etc Picture of your pup?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 10/08/2021 05:43

First jab was cancelled yesterday due to me being poorly and needing PCR. Hoping to rearrange ASAP as it's come back negative

littlebilliie · 10/08/2021 07:39

We have the darkest blues and need help.

New pup 8 weeks cried at crate first night and was very upsetting. We put her in the kitchen on a cushion and now are up all night with her toilet and separation. It's breaking us

Any advice - should we start the crating again?

ThePontiacBandit · 10/08/2021 07:59

littleBilliie are you upstairs and her downstairs? 8 weeks is still so little. We did first week - crate upstairs in bedroom (door open), then took it in turns to sleep on the sofa for a couple of weeks with her close by (chose this so it was easier to take her out if she needed the loo). She has a soft bed inside her crate and we don’t close the door at the moment. Now Banditpup (16 weeks) will happily go in her crate at bedtime and we have a baby monitor. She makes noise if she needs us. For example, Sunday night she woke at 3am. I took her outside, she needed a wee and a poo. Then straight back to bed. We’ve put a stair gate in part of the kitchen so she has a small space to roam, can get to her drink but not go too far.

At 8 weeks they’re still so little, used to sleeping with siblings, it must be scary. I would avoid leaving her on her own for now until she’s a bit more settled. Once she’s confident you will come if she needs you, she will settle.

cheeseisthebest · 10/08/2021 08:05

Hi new puppy owner here. Picked our 10 week old shitzu up last Friday. He's crated at night, barks a bit but mostly settled between 11 and 6. I do take him out for a wee but he doesn't have one in the night.
He's ok with toileting outside but prefers inside as doesn't like the wet grass!
Any ideas how I can stop him pooing him in the same spot in our front room? I've tried a spray.
He's settled in incredibly well and is pretty chilled but getting more confident! Love him to bits already.

cheeseisthebest · 10/08/2021 08:06

Meant to say he happily naps in his crate during the day too which has helped.

cheeseisthebest · 10/08/2021 08:07

I did sleep down with him to start with but he's OK now.
