@BelladiMamma

Checking in.

BellaPup is 10 months old and 35kgs of awesome bounciness.

This is a puppy thread. You are surely describing a lion?
LadyCatStark · 07/08/2021 19:55
@LadyCatStark that looks very Lytham?
Not far off @GuyFawkesDay the other side of Blackpool, are you from nearby?

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/08/2021 20:16

Ooh, my sister lives near Blackpool, and works in one of the tourist restaurants. I thought your photo looked familiar.

LadyCatStark · 07/08/2021 20:25

@MsAwesomeDragon ah fab do you visit much?

Namechangesagain · 07/08/2021 22:17

Does anyone with slightly older dogs have any advice for encouraging dogs outside when its raining. Ratbag hates going outside in the rain and has held her poop all day until she couldnt and went indoors. Of course the moment she chose was the same time as the 1 year old threw up everywhere. Crazy Saturday night in this house..and not in a good way 🤪🤪🤪

LadyCatStark · 07/08/2021 22:20

@Namechangesagain I go outside and run around the garden myself like a crazy lady 😂 it doesn’t take much for his FOMO to kick in…

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/08/2021 22:21

We try to visit at least once per school holiday. Obviously that hasn't happened so much over the past couple of years with covid, but we were down just a couple of weeks ago. I didn't take the dog, because he can't cope with that long a car journey yet.

We've got a large (20+ people) family gathering tomorrow. We normally do it at Christmas but had to postpone it til now. So we're taking pup for his longest car journey yet (45 mins each way) to a new place, with a LOT of new people, and I'm a touch nervous about how he'll cope with it (based on him being a little shit today). It's also supposed to be a BBQ but the forecast is for rain, so not sure how we'll do with that either. I'm looking forward to seeing my family but very, very anxious about it at the same time. It doesn't help that DH doesn't want to go, he dislikes our family gatherings, so I feel like I have to manage him as well as DD and the dog Hmm

Namechangesagain · 07/08/2021 22:26

I do this as well! She will run around like a nutter but her bum will not touch the wet floor. I've tried taking a puppy pad out with me as a compromise and shes having none of it. Might help once she can hang out with her older cousins

lu9months · 07/08/2021 22:36

hi all, im excited (and nervous) about picking our Labrador pup up on Thursday. she will be 8 weeks. im a bit confused about what you can do and can't do in terms of taking her out before her second vaccination . can you go for little walks in the local area if you keep away from other dogs? or do the puppies need to be carried to go out and about? im keen to show her new things once she has settled in.

LadyCatStark · 07/08/2021 22:40

Good luck @MsAwesomeDragon! My advice for large gatherings is to take something to help them settle and go to sleep like their bed or even their crate if they have one. I’ve found Billy just cannot settle when we take him to friends’/ family and he obviously gets overtired from all the new things, which leads to bad behaviour. Last time we took him to a BBQ he was OK but the time before (same place) I had to drive half an hour to take him home at 7pm, put him to bed and then go back 🙈.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 07/08/2021 23:02

I too run around the garden to get bigpawspup interested in the great outdoors for his toilet....

@lu9months I've read lots about socialising a pup before vaccination is complete and there appears to be a lot of support for getting pup out and about whilst minimising any risk. We are taking bigpaws (1st vaccine is next week) out but carrying him only putting him down if not frequented by dogs or a tidal beach

Big paws weighs just under 9kg so I'm not going that far carrying him!

GuyFawkesDay · 08/08/2021 05:33

@lu9months I'm taking FawkesPup out in my arms somewhere each day to get used to car and other things. Yesterday we went to the market to see the dog chap and he attracted lots of new fans. Day before was just the village shop. We waiting outside for the kids. He's only 3.5kg though so he's portable!

@LadyCatStark I'm originally from Lytham, my parents are still in the area. I do get up to see them but its150miles from where I am now so taking woof will be an interesting prospect. That said our crate is actually a travel one, and it's got a drainage tray so i may just go for it.

He's got to do a 1hr trip next week so that'll be interesting!! Meeting my cousin and new puppies (lending her my adult cage for 2 new pups) so it's going to be dog and puppy madness in their garden.

Spudlet · 08/08/2021 07:37

We carried Spudpup before his jabs kicked in, although not to many places as he weighed a ton and was too wriggly to stay in a bag…!

He was barking to be let out this morning which is good, I think? Means he knows to make a fuss about going out rather than just going in his crate. Mind you, it was DH’s turn to get up so he may not agree entirely with me there Grin Althiugg DS was up even earlier than Spudpup, so it’s hardly like anyone was having a luxurious lie-in Confused

GuyFawkesDay · 08/08/2021 07:49

Aww go spudpup, he's a smart one isn't he!

The snugglepup is witchcraft. Slept in his crate, one wee wake up and he whimpered for me. Up at 5 but heck I'll take that for sleeping in my own bed!!

tizwozliz · 08/08/2021 08:21

We did a lot of viewing from the boot of the car, saved my arms, although highlighted how filthy my car is

Wolfcub · 08/08/2021 08:40

Wolfpup hs just vomited on the living room carpet for the second morning in a row. Fml

GuyFawkesDay · 08/08/2021 08:47

Oh no! Poor you and Wolfcub.

Got some Eden food yesterday. Dropped just a few bits of it into his second bowl. Ate that before his current food (which he mostly left) so I think we are onto a hit. He's going to have to have it moved gradually but crossing everything that I won't be cleaning up loads of awful stinky dogpats soon

tizwozliz · 08/08/2021 09:01

Ada has managed to eat the silicone silencer that came on her collar this morning. We've had an online vet consultation this morning and thoughts are it shouldn't be an issue but if we wanted to be super cautious then it would be a trip to the vets, so need to decide what we want to do asap

GuyFawkesDay · 08/08/2021 09:13

Argh, how big was it?
We've got slide on tags for H, recommended by cousin as spaniels undergrowth habit means the others get ripped off. I love ours. It's on a silicone slider but far far harder to remove.

tizwozliz · 08/08/2021 09:16

It's a disk about the size of a penny, maybe a touch bigger. It wasn't being used, she retrieved if from the table. Took us a while to work out what it was she'd got and our attempts at exchanging proved futile.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/08/2021 09:29

Oh rats. I suppose it depends whether she chewed it up and how big she is. They're buggers aren't they.

I had a moment when I realised FawkesPup was chewing a geranium leaf, I rummaged out of his croc jaws and moved the patio pot but was panicking he'd be poisoned by it.

They're not good for the grey hair, are they???!

Jigsawtrain · 08/08/2021 09:49

Joining in. Excited to be picking up our golden retriever puppy tomorrow at 8 weeks old. We have a 4 hour drive which I’m not looking forward to but think otherwise we’re all prepared.

We have a crate to crate train, is a crate cover worthwhile? I could get one today if so.

littlebilliie · 08/08/2021 09:59

Okay bit of a panic here the toilet training isn't working. Newdog is eight weeks old. We had a plastic ferplast crate to take into the bedroom but she screamed at that, she is on a large cushion in the kitchen. And although she whines when we get up she has already been to the toilet.

Do we get a more open crate and start from scratch again / help!

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/08/2021 10:22

@wolfcub is it proper full on vomit or is it watery bile stuff? AwesomePup did the bile vomit a few mornings in a row then we realised it might be hunger so moved his last meal about an hour later and it sorted it. Could be worth a try?

@tizwozliz that sounds worrying. How big is pup? She might be big enough for it to just pass through and come out undigested.

@littlebilliie at 8 weeks she's still so tiny. How long have you had her? I would start from scratch with the toilet training and don't expect miracles. There are going to be accidents in the house for a little while, but she will get there.

Wolfcub · 08/08/2021 10:23

Little at that age she needs to go at least every two hours. I set an alarm and woke pup up every two hours to take him out. Unless you've really sensitive hearing or a baby monitor you may not hear her when she first starts to witter to go out
