Young dog weeing on carpet

My spaniel is now 11 months old. He was house trained within 2 weeks of buying him and he never had any accidents after this until now. He has suddenly started weeing on the lounge carpet every now and again. He never wees anywhere else in the house and is still dry at night. We have just come back in the house now after being at dog training class (ironically) l opened the back door for him in case he wanted to go outside but he didn't. He was in the lounge with me whilst I was looking at mumsnet and I heard him weeing on the carpet again. I don't understand why he is not letting me know he wants to go out when he has been so good all these months. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

He's being a teenage Knobhead is possibly it. One year old is bang in the middle of it.

Did you clean up with enzyme cleaner?

Thanks for your reply. I think you are right about the teenage knobhead. Training class was a disaster as well today. He usually does ok. I didn't use enzyme cleaner, I'm just going to look on Amazon now.

My Cavapoo, Sophia was a nightmare for this! She'd watch me on the loo, then squat & pee on my landing 🤦🏼‍♀️ Doggo teenage years I'm afraid. Keep putting him out for toilets regularly, especially after he's been playing and after he's eaten. Good luck 💕🐾

It smells of wee as it hasn’t been cleaned correctly, so he wees there.

You need to use Enzyme cleaner to get rid of the smell else he'll just keep marking the same spot. We use Simple Solution.

I would also go back to taking him out in the garden and standing there with him instead of just opening the door and giving him the choice. Our beagle went through a phase of pretending to go to the toilet around that age - you really need to reinforce their training when they're being teenage knobheads Grin
