Dog abscess

Yesterday morning, I saw that my dog had a massive bulge in his neck. We have been to the vets and they said it could be an abscess. They tried to drain some fluid but couldn't. They were able to take a little sample to send off to be tested. He's on antibiotics.
I can't tell you how worried I am. Every time I look at him I get upset. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. It looks bigger today but the vet said it could be swelling from inserting a needle yesterday.
They also said it might go down in around 3 days due to being on antibiotics.
Have you had this experience and how was it?

I've never had an abcess with dogs only cats. I bathed with salt water and got antibiotics from vets. Believe me when it bursts it stinks .

Yes, I have been warned by the vet that it will be revolting .... it is really big. It's doubled in size.
Doesn't look like it has any kind of head. It's just covered in all his fur. But it's just so big. The vet said it should reduce in size after being on the antibiotics for 3 days. But if anything it's just so much bigger, and it's been around 5 days now. He's due back at the vets on Thursday.

My dog recently had an abscess on his back leg. I completely didn't notice it until he licked it and burst it.
Antibiotics for 5 days, washed with salt and water for a few days is fine now. Vet had no idea what it was from. He's never had that before.

@sillysmiles
oh no, I hope he's ok.
Mine still has a big abscess which has grown a lot. He's still on antibiotics which he's had now for a week.
Vet said he needs to stay on them for another 2 weeks. His fur has started to come off where the abscess is and it's bleeding a bit.
His results came back today. The vet said it's E.Coli. He seems a lot better in himself though. His temperature has returned to normal now and he seems a bit chirpier.
