@Turquoisesol

Aria20 get frosted glass cover. We had to do this for our kitchen door. You can buy on Amazon and it just goes on using a water spray and can be removed when no longer needed
Once she’s stopped you can remove it little by little rather than all at once too a friend said as they don’t then go back from all to nothing and back again if that makes sense!

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 20:27

It looks quite nice though so we won’t be rushing to remove ours

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 20:36

I wish we could use frosted film to cover up all the birds in our garden that turquoisepup is barking frantically at!

LadyCatStark · 30/06/2021 20:53
@LadyCatStark yes def use a different treat eg cheese or tiny piece of hotdog that's only for walks.
We had success tonight with some left over feta cheese from our tea. DH was with me though so I’ll give it a try tomorrow when I’m by myself.

I’d literally only need to drive to the end of my street as there’s a pub car park with a little path leading off it into 2 massive fields. As soon as he gets to the car park, he’s happy as Larry and he loves his walk, it’s just getting him there 😂.

Wolfcub · 30/06/2021 20:56

Driving away from home sounds like a good idea. Wolfpup is extremely aggressively bitey today. No distraction or diversion techniques are working for longer than 15 seconds. Let's hope week 10 is not quite as bad as week 9.

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/06/2021 21:49

wolfcub do you have a playpen? When AwesomePup gets bitey that means he's tired, so we pop him in his playpen with a chew (a yak chew was his favorite at that age) and he whines for a couple of minutes then goes off to sleep. He goes in there while we eat our dinner as well, and he's definitely made the association. When he sees our dinner coming out he goes into his pen, lies on his bed and waits patiently (for a minute at most) for his proper treat of a pizzle, beef tail or lamb braid (all suitable from 12 weeks).

Today we've been working on not growling at people walking past when we're out. It's a work in progress. The growls are shorter and quieter than they were yesterday, but he's still growling.

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 21:52

Does everyone still have a treat pouch attached to them on walks? I like my treat pouch but wondering if I might like to get a gilet with big pockets I can use instead specifically for dog walking. I think I will tire of having to use treat pouch call the time !

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 21:56

Lol reading this and all the things we are doing to manage our pups makes me realise all the things I have changed since getting my boy to make his life (or my life with him!) easier! Some of them I would have done anyway at some point but he accelerated them! I've got rid of carpets downstairs, had others replaced (fecking digging at them!), changed my car, got a new sofa, had blinds installed so he can't see people and dogs in the street! Not to mention the money o have spent on things he has hated/ chewed up/ ignored. It's a good job we love them!

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 21:58

Oh familychallenge that does make me feel better! I sometimes blame myself for choosing a high maintenance breed. But I think they are all high maintenance in their own way !

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:01

@Turquoisesol lol not to mention training, daycare, thinking about fun places to walk him and meeting his doggy friends 🤣🤣🤣 I think they are all high maintenance!

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 22:14

I have spent a lot on books too. Trying to educate myself on training methods etc

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:18

There is no end to what you can spend on this!

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 22:24

And time to spend on it! Oh, and I also bought some really expensive calming supplements!

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:33

@Turquoisesol here is mine in the act of destroying a £60 bed

Puppy Survival Thread - June/July
familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:34

Now he gets old duvets! No more beds 🤣🤣🤣

Turquoisesol · 30/06/2021 22:36

That’s funny! Tell me, what age did he do this? Turquoisepup hasn’t really wrecked any beds, but a friend told me theirs didn’t start destructive chewing til adult teeth were in and the pup had more powerful chew

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:40

Last week at 10 months! He always chewed and enjoys destruction generally 🤣🤣 difference is he's better at it now!

LadyCatStark · 30/06/2021 22:40

Does anyone else’s puppy stand very smartly with one paw in the air? Is it a gun dog thing? I’m sure I’ve seen working dogs doing it when concentrating. Billy has started doing it tonight 🥰 he hasn’t got a sore paw or anything as he does it with both paws.

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:41

I've given him soft toys and cardboard to destroy to divert but it's true that unsupervised he can do a lot of damage in a short time now 😳😳🙄🙄🤣🤣🐾🐶

familychallenge · 30/06/2021 22:42

@LadyCatStark mine is part beagle and he does it when he is trying to stalk prey.

ashmts · 01/07/2021 00:40

@LadyCatStark My spaniel does that, usually when she's waiting on you to throw her ball. It's very elegant and very cute. Apparently a lifted paw can be either anxiety or anticipation depending on the rest of their body language. If he's standing smartly it sounds more like anticipation with yours too.

I'm going on a weekend away and it's going to be the first time I've left pup for any length of time. I'm going to miss her! Especially cos we had that accident recently, I still worry about her all the time.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/07/2021 06:33

@LadyCatStark we find PoirotPup does it when he gets a strong scent - sometimes his body almost quivers in anticipation/excitement at the same time. But like when he is watch the magpie in the garden he’d like to play with 🤣

@ashmts have a lovely time away!

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 01/07/2021 06:48

Have a great time away
Yy life pup is extra bites when over stimulated

He was sick twice yesterday but seems fine in himself. It was after supper so as fine in himself I’m assuming too many treats or something he ate randomly

Aria20 · 01/07/2021 07:41

@Turquoisesol sounds like a dumb question but would I have to stick the film on the outside of the glass shed doors as that is the side she sees her reflection in?
