16w old puppy - big regression with wee!

So my lovely puppy is 16w old. He’s amazing and we all love him to bits!

He seemed to be doing really well with house training - the odd wee accident but pretty reliable, with reminders and treats. Last 48hrs it’s all gone out the window and he’s pissing all over the shop!

How do I get this back on track? Do I need to go back to the hourly thing, treat every time? I thought with the hot weather and back door being always open he’d be more reliable, not less!

As an aside, this has also coincided with him being REALLY bitey… he was nippy before now, but he seems like a pup possessed 😬

Thanks for any advice!

I would go back to taking him out often and telling him what a good chap he is when he does a pee. He is still very young. Don't bother with treats - just lots of praise. Dogs love to do the right thing. The only people who benefit from this mania for treats are the manufacturers and vendors.

He could have a urine infection. Is he urinating more than usual? Is there an odour to it, e.g. fishy? Is there any blood in it?

Thank you

I had started to ‘wean’ off the treats and moved to lots of praise instead. I wonder if he’s lost the motivation?! But I might go back to hourly toileting again.

There’s nothing suspicious about his urine - no bad smell, normal amount, no blood

You need to keep the back door closed or he has no way of differentiating between inside and outside Smile

He's too young to understand the difference so he has to be able to ask to go to the toilet.

It worked when you treated him

You have dropped down on the treats and he is regressing

You have your answer Smile

You dont need to use treats you can take food from his daily food allowance

Thank you Smile

That’s a really good point about the back door being open, hadn’t thought about it like that!

I will go back to food-reward but use his normal kibble.

Only one wee indoors so far (mind you it’s only 10.00 Grin)
