Getting new puppy after losing my last dog to cancer

Hi all. I started a thread last year that detailed my dog's lymphoma cancer diagnosis. He was put to sleep in March this year after a short-lived remission from chemo. I was broken and swore I would never open my home or great to another dog again.

But then I saw this cute little face and three months since Teddy's passing, I now have a puppy scampering about the house again. He's a Dachshund Pekingese cross, with a lovely colouring and temperament.

The day I brought him home I had a really good cry because I felt so guilty that my old dog, Teddy, wasn't here and this new pup was.

The new pup is mouthing, as expected of a puppy, but he's really relaxed and happy to sit with me. I've missed those little wet kisses

I really just wanted to share my news with you all as this forum was a really good source of support at a really difficult time when I had to make decisions about Teddy's health.

Oh and because it would be rude not to... Here's a photo of Rusty, the new puppy.

On a side note, I really wanted to adopt a dog this time round but I was really struggling to find a place that would accept me as I have a 1.5 year old child at home. Is this usual practice for adoption?

Aww he looks lovely OP.

So sorry to hear about Teddy Thanks but hoping Rusty starts to fill that big hole that they leave in your heart.

I think there is endless room in our hearts for dogs. It doesn't lessen your other dogs memory at all.

I was heartbroken when our darling lab died, and didn't think I'd ever want another dog. I'm currently sat with two spaniels across my feet because god forbid they should lie anywhere with touching me Grin

What a cutie! Dogs bring out the best in us, infinite love. You honour Teddy’s memory by giving Rusty a loving home. Enjoy those kisses 😍

Aww, what a beaut!

Your last dog would be happy that you’re happy OP. I felt the same brining my puppy home, but I know that dogs don’t think like that. What a cutie your dog is x
