Help me find the courage

I think my old boy needs to go to his rest but I can’t do it. It’s been just me and him since 2013. How do I find the strength and how do I carry on without him?

Please don’t tell me I’m being over-dramatic, if you think that please just move on without posting.

So very sorry @hostesstrolley. What a beautiful boy. Thanks

My vet says the kindest thing you can do for your pet is to put to sleep a week too early rather than a week too late. Wish we could ask the same for humans.

Thanks for @NoIdontwanttoseeyourknob and @HostessTrolley .

I’m so sorry @NoIdontwanttoseeyourknob

Its so hard - I find myself crying at random things. But I’m also now able to smile at remembering some of the things we did together and the naughty pup things - like having to bath him three times when he rolled in dead seagull at the beach, and the time he managed to eat a whole batch of freshly baked cookies that were cooling on the worktop.

Sorry for your loss op. We took some of our ddogs ashes to our favourite holiday place and we can remember her when we go there..
Also some in her favourite places near home.
Small comfort....

I'm so sorry OP. This is this ultimate act of love for your gorgeous dog. I had to send my beloved DDog over the rainbow bridge last year when he was 15. It was incredibly hard but we are able now to smile about the happy times Thanks

Well done for letting him go when it was his time ❤️

HildegardeCrowe · 14/06/2021 20:03

This thread has me sobbing. OP, how are you? You’ve acted out of love and glad to hear it was peaceful. I’ve just got back from the vet with my 14 year old boy. He confirmed a diagnosis of degenerative myelopathy which is a progressive incurable condition that can lead to total paralysis. The vet said the time to PTS could come at any time and I’m in bits. Like you it’s just me and him and I can’t imagine life without him. Knowing that most everyone who has a dog and loves them will go through something similar does help because I know I’m not alone. I’m trying to focus on the positives, how he’s enriched my life for the last 10 years (he’s a rescue) and how he’s had a good life with me. Thinking of you x

NoIdontwanttoseeyourknob · 14/06/2021 21:33

Oh @HildegardeCrowe, what a sad diagnosis. But at least your boy doesn’t know, he will take his life one day at a time and live in the moment as dogs are so good at doing.

I have tears running down my face. I'm so very sorry @NoIdontwanttoseeyourknob and @HostessTrolley. We lost our deeply loved little girl on New Year's Eve. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do (and I sat with my elderly mum for nearly two weeks on end of life care 3 years ago) and I'm still a bit broken. Sending you much love and strength and thinking of everyone who has had to make (or will have to make) this decision. 💕🐾

HildegardeCrowe · 14/06/2021 23:01

Thank you @NoIdontwanttoseeyourknob. Yes it’s a blessing that as long as he’s not suffering, his life can be lived as it always has, just finding joy and pleasure in sniffing the grass and cuddling up to me. I hope you’re not too very sad tonight and that you’re finding a way through the grief.

dibly · 15/06/2021 21:35

I’m so so sorry for your loss. Huge hugs, it’s so painful and only dog owners really get it. ❤️ for all our dogs, if only we’d had longer with them
