Labrador not getting up

lil226 · 07/06/2021 08:32

Just to say he is going to the vets ASAP this morning, I have a 6 year old Labrador, he was fine yesterday and spent time outside in the garden sunbathing, then since last night won't move, like he will sit up, but won't attempt to get up, will only have food or water if it's out in front of him.
Anyone had anything like this? I'm very heavily pregnant and scared I'm gonna lose him (hormones right)

It could be lots of things. When mine refused to move it was because of his back which he had injured.

PacifyLulu · 07/06/2021 08:36

If it’s sudden maybe it’s just an injury sustained yesterday - let us know how he gets on at the vets. Flowers

DinosaurDiana · 07/06/2021 08:36

I agree, it sounds like he’s hurt himself.
Is there anyone there who can help him into the garden to toilet ? A towel under his tummy, and the ends held up by a person, to hold him up might help

OriginalTaste · 07/06/2021 08:44

I agree, sounds like he's done himself a mischief.

Good idea to try and get him out for a wee if possible. Try not to worry yourself too much - he'll pick up on that (ours certainly does!).

Sending good vibes for the vet appointment x

It was so sudden, he was outside, I didn't see him come into the conservatory, but then he wouldn't move from there in, being so heavily pregnant (I'm 39 weeks) my husband has moved him to the garden this morning, and then will move him to car for the vet appointment later, I'm just so worried!

Has he not peed since last night OP ? Hope you get on ok at the vets .

lil226 · 07/06/2021 10:33

Husband currently at the vets with him!
@Floralnomad no hasn't been to the toilet since mid afternoon yesterday.

DinosaurDiana · 07/06/2021 10:41

Make sure the vet knows he’s not had a wee.

lil226 · 07/06/2021 11:25

Update, he is still at the vets, they don't think it's something physically wrong ie a injury, they said his stomach felt tight, so are now doing blood tests and a ultrasound then they will do a x Ray if necessary x

DinosaurDiana · 07/06/2021 12:07

Is he castrated ?

lil226 · 07/06/2021 12:22

@DinosaurDiana yes he is

Newfluff · 07/06/2021 14:39

lil226 · 07/06/2021 14:44

shockthemonkey · 07/06/2021 15:26

Fingers crossed for you lil

haymaid · 07/06/2021 16:27

Thinking of you both OP, you must be so worried. Try to keep yourself as calm as you possible can in your condition xxx

lil226 · 07/06/2021 22:12

So a update, did bloods and ultrasound which did show anything, the vet then went back to the idea it was a muscular injury, and gave him pain relief, and we went to pick him up. In between that phone call and us getting to the vets, he was sick numerous times and has diarrhoea, so he has had to stay in overnight on a drip, and still have no idea what's wrong!

Honeyroar · 07/06/2021 22:16

Oh bless him. He’s in the right place, at least. Sending you a cyber hug and positive vibes for him.

Floralnomad · 07/06/2021 22:17

Could he have eaten something poisonous or been bitten by something on his walk yesterday ? I hope he is better soon poor boy .

Newfluff · 07/06/2021 22:17

Sorry it's not better news but he is in the best place. Hope you don't mind but I'm holding you all in my prayers.

Curious2021 · 07/06/2021 22:18

Gosh I hope he’s ok OP.

lil226 · 07/06/2021 22:20

We have seen him as our vet outsources the out of hours, so we had to take him to the other vets, and minus him throwing up in the car, he was his usual happy self and was very happy to see us and was walking fine. They are thinking gastroenteritis now but still not sure! Tomorrow/ Wednesday is a worry as I have planned c section on Wednesday, so I hope he is better!

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 07/06/2021 22:42

Sounds like quite an improvement then if he’s walking . He will probably be fine tomorrow . Good luck with your section 💐

LBee2020 · 08/06/2021 10:13

Hope he's doing better today OP. Please give us an update if you get a moment. All the best with the c-section. As a fellow lab owner who is 38 weeks pregnant I can imagine how tough this is for you!
