Jumping up and biting

Puppy is 19 weeks and is doing well with training except that he is still jumping up and biting at us/clothes etc. He's a big breed so can jump high. DH is fed up and would like him muzzled/in a kennel/gone.

I'm working on the jumping but please tell me it gets better. I'm exhausted and stressed out. I just need to know it'll improve.

I would just train your dog to sit Confused rather than resort to aversive training.

How good is your recall going to be if your dog does not like coming near to you because of a smell/taste that it does not like.....

Teaching a sit to greet is working with our lab. I think it's better because he knows what's expected of him? Instead of using off (which we tried) because he jumped then got the command so it's not really teaching him to stop jumping in the first place. Plus now he does a really proud upright head thrown back sit like "Look mum, I am doing really great not jumping" which is very adorable.

Also giving him something to hold in his mouth helps too, so he can't mouth at us. He will now usually go and get a toy himself before he greets people.

Try distraction. Give him some dog food or a toy to chew on. Say sit consistently as well.

Worked for me. Great recall and everything else is on point. It was just the mouthing when excited and happy we couldn't get a grip on.
