I have been thinking seriously thinking about a dog since before lockdown but with covid happening had put it on hold. I was already work from home and my employer are fine with dogs in the office on the odd occasion I may have had to to in. I work in an industry hit hard by covid but have so far managed to keep my job despite others being made redundant. Yesterday I was offered a puppy and my instinct was immediately to say yes! Spoke with the owner who explained he was 10 weeks and had been returned. I could visit mum and dad etc and collect him when suits. Reasonable price etc. But today I had some serious second thoughts. The main reason being if God forbid covid resurges and my job doesn't make it, I can't guarantee I'd be work from home if I had to find a new one. I text the owner to tell her, explained and apologised, but she's read and not replied. I was also concerned about him having been returned and that there may be more to that but now but feel horribly guilty for wasting her time. I've did the right thing, right?

You should ONLY take on a dog if you can be sure you can completely commit to it and its needs, possibly for the next 16 years or so. It's a very big undertaking and you sound extremely sensible for putting the brakes on. Its welfare depends on ending up in the right home with the right owners. You've definitely done the responsible and sensible thing.

Thank you! I felt really guilty but knew until covid is no longer a thing and my industry recovers it must get be a risk

You have absolutely done the right thing and I wish more people were as selfless as you have been.
