Is anyone allowed into vets with their pet?

My elderly pooch is slowing down somewhat. She has a slight mitral valve prolapse and I'm guessing it's worsening. She's not uncomfortable as such just struggling on walks a little.
My vets has a blanket ban on owners going in with their pets to the surgery due to Covid
They explain that they don't have adequate ventilation in the room.
I've asked what they will do about this and they don't seem to have a plan except to keep owners out for the foreseeable future.
What are other people's vets doing?

@Ladylimpet if you are actually a vet or involved in the care of animals, I’m horrified by your callous attitude to people having to make heartbreaking decisions about their pets in a bloody car park.

Our vet is a small vet (2 consulting rooms, and tiny waiting room) and she’s allowed us in the whole time. Because she cares about animals and people.

It’s absolute bullshit to not be allowing clients in now, when restaurants etc are open.

People who aren’t allowed in yet should find a new vet

I think a lot of vets who aren't letting in clients will lose out to those who are.

Fortunately my clients understand that the vast majority of my staff are under 30 and are not yet vaccinated. We have not had one complaint.

@Keepyourdistance000 I agree. I’ve been recommending our vet to everyone locally, as the large vet isn’t letting anyone in. I know quite a few people that have now changed to this new small vet who lets us in with our pets.

I think the under 30 so not vaccinated thing just doesn’t really wash as a reason when we expect vast numbers of teachers under 30 to be mixing with children and supermarket workers etc . Our vet has put Perspex screens up and everybody wears a mask , works well .

I know for my vets it’s more the having to isolate that’s an issue, they’d be short staffed with people having to do that...

If one tested positive, they’d be closed - because they can’t work without being in contact with each other.

And I know one of the staff is high risk.

So I don’t actually complain, I’m not going to change vets because I know them and trust them... but it doesn’t mean I’m happy about it anymore than I’m happy about loads of things happening just now.

But I do occasionally in conversation mention it’s a pain, but they all agree with me, so...

Yes and have been doing so since this tine last year.

We're allowed in with out pet, only one person but wearing a mask so phone around if it's important to you and find a vet which allows this.

I totally respect the vets and staff need to be safe - it is the absolute priority. I also understand the specific issues vets have eg not being able to open windows in surgeries due to animals safety and the proximity of owners if they are allowed in to the small consulting areas.

It does seem that some surgeries manage the communication between owners and vet staff better than others. Maybe just having an outside private area to talk would be better than shouting across a crowded carpark. Can I as an owner look in from outside of the window? I understand these are specific example and not possible in all cases.

Again interesting how the government guidelines are interpreted differently between practices. I blame the Government every time!

As we have been in this situation for 18 months it would be good to see if an improvement could be made that would be safe for everyone
