Old Dog Becoming Aggressive towards DH

Gingefringe · 22/05/2021 12:37

Our gorgeous 12 year old cocker is now being very agressive towards my DH - he's generally ok around everyone else in the family. We think he's probably deaf and struggling with his eyesight.
I'm concerned it'll get worse and that he'll bite someone. He barks and growls at DH whenever he gets near him. Previously a loving and gentle dog.
Any advice or has anyone had any similar experiences?

Has he had a recent vet check? He could be in pain or be suffering from memory loss.

Our old dog had several strange aggressive attacks at the end, very much out of character for him. The vet thought probably dementia. He had a stroke and died before we had to have him PTS, but it was certainly on the cards.

I would get him checked over by the vet if this is a recent change in behaviour.

I walk an old boy (he's 13.5) who has started growling and grumbling at strange dogs when he never did before. In his case, it's a mixture of vestibular disease, poor hearing and poor eyesight. He's absolutely fine with dogs he knows (and any people) but strange dogs have started to set him off for some reason.
