New Labrador puppy name suggestions please

We've chosen our new puppy today and he's absolutely gorgeous. We've been trying to get a rescue dog for a couple of years but none have been suitable for children under 14 in our local area (up to a couple of hours drive), and we have an 11 year old. So we're getting a puppy. We've done due diligence, the breeder is a friend of a friend, we've met the mother with the pups (she's very placid and well loved), etc.

So here he is. He's 5 weeks old right now and will be coming home to us on the bank holiday weekend. Dd1 is going to be at home with him for the first few weeks, then I'll be at home over the summer holidays (I'm a teacher), and we've got a doggy daycare lined up for September when we're all hopefully at work/school.

So name suggestions are welcome. The four of us are finding it difficult to agree on something we all likeGrin. It's more difficult than choosing a child's name!!!

Are you fond of a glass of wine? If so you call him Dionysus - Dion for short.
Or, as he will probably love swimming in the sea, Poseidon - Don for short.

(You definitely can’t call him Apollo or Zeus as anyone who’s ever seen Magnum PI knows they’re Doberman names Grin)

I quite like toast Grin

Iyland · 10/05/2021 19:37

My children have shortened ours to Osmo even though is name instead an extension of it Hmm I quite like it though

I have a fox red Labrador, a girl called Robyn and I've not met another Robyn (not a dog anyway). My dog is two now and we are regularly told what a lovely dog she is! They are a really special breed

I know you weren't asking for advice, but make sure you have him off lead from the beginning and that the kids never chase him but he chases them. People often keep their puppies on the lead because they're scared they'll run off but a puppy will always want to be close to you, so if you want a dog who can have a good run off lead you need to start early.

As a name suggestion I'm gonna suggest Raymond or Ned (Red Ned!)

I love dorky names for a dog, so cute Thanks

Shame about Mars - but I also like the Sirius suggestion, it can be shortened to Siri - and your dh can amuse himself by asking the dog "are you serious?" Or "Siri, what's the temperature in Seattle". If I've got the measure of your DH!

We went through a rather large number of pets called after sci Fi characters, it took a while for exH to catch on, he thought some of them were interesting ancient Egyptian names Wink

You have indeed got the measure of my DH, he would definitely ask "are you Sirius?"

We have been trying out a few names over the past week and we think we've settled on Blaise (pronounced blaze, dd1 insists on the pretentious spelling). Not a suggestion from this thread, sorry, but one that 3 out of the 4 of us like. DH isn't keen, but was outvoted by the rest of us, and he's getting used to it.
