Dogs and leather sofas

Hi all,
We are thinking about getting a new sofa - I'm erring towards as leather one, has anyone got a dog and a leather sofa? Do dogs nails, scratch or tear the leather? I'm hoping it will wipe clean more easily in terms of mud but wonder if other damage is a consideration?

Many thanks.

We have a very small terrier and her nails haven't damaged the leather sofa (yet).

A dogs nails should never be long enough or sharp enough to tear or scratch a sofa. Always kept to the point they do not come into contact with the floor.

Thanks - she does go to groomer every 6 weeks (who cuts her nails), however she's due a groom at the moment and I can hear her nails click clacking on the vinyl floor when she trots around at the moment.

Ours isn't torn but it is scratched

Leather sofas here. The expensive softer leather one has a few light marks on it from his nails but would easily be buffed out if I could be bothered to do so. The harder leather ones don't have any marks on them.

Have a leather sofa and our lab/collie cross’s nails have not damaged it all...
