Thanks limitisup I think I am doing an ok job when I am on my own and the classes are so stressful I often end up in tears. So think I will just have to pass on them for now for my own sanity

ashmts · 08/06/2021 14:26

Thanks everyone. I struggled really badly with anxiety when we brought her home, I feel it's only recently I've started to relax and not worry so much about her. And now this! @tabulahrasa Thanks, I'm hoping it is just taking some time for her to recover. Believe it or not DP and I are both HCPs! If it was a human I bet I'd be more relaxed but dog health... Whole different ball game. They are resilient though. She's just the perfect dog and I don't want her personality to have changed at all. That's the worry at this stage really.

Doje · 08/06/2021 17:10

Oh @ashmts my heart goes out to you. Dpup had a very near miss about a month ago when he jumped off a MASSIVE wall. How he walked away unhurt I'll never know. The guilt of letting it happen and the wondering 'what if' knocked my confidence so badly. It's still on my mind daily. So best wishes to you and pup over the next couple of days or so.

ashmts that sounds traumatic, I'm glad the vet has given her the all clear and hope she gets back to her normal self very soon.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/06/2021 18:49

@ashmts what a horrible accident and shock for you all. Take care of yourselves and wishing pup a speedy recovery.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 08/06/2021 18:59

@ashmts Not exactly the same but have totally been where you are with the anxiety and feeling of terror when we went through Georgiepup's epilepsy diagnosis. If you'd like to PM me for support, you're very welcome to. Best wishes x

Nordstrom · 08/06/2021 19:06

@ashmts I'm sorry to hear about your puppy accident, hope she is feeling her old self again soon.

So, I have come to the conclusion that my garden is a puppy death trap...

I'm stressing about keeping her away from toxic plants but need a long term solution.

Puppy seems to be rather fond of eating quantities of leaves and little sticks and won't be easily deterred! Is this normal? How much should I worry about making sure that she doesn't?

Turquoisesol · 08/06/2021 19:10

Nordstrom Imothers may be more careful than me, but from what I have read most things just cause mild tummy upset/irritation and often need to be eaten in large quantities for that to happen. So I don’t worry about the odd leave here or there. It’s hard enough work marshalling a puppy without worrying about these things too much.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/06/2021 19:27

PoirotPup was exactly the same - he has got a bit better as he’s got older. I did used to watch, distract a bit and swap sticks for kibble. He doesn’t really do it out on walks - I just checked what was toxic and what wasn’t on the dogs trust website and we penned on one area of garden.

Moopup is doing this too! He ate a buttercup today then brought it straight back up he's had me worried sick all day as he was off his food but turns out he's not keen on lamb pedigree puppy because he demolished his tea which was the chicken version.. little fuss pot already 🤣

17CherryTreeLane · 08/06/2021 20:41

So sorry about your pup @ashmts. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, what a horrible shock for you all.

ilovesushi · 09/06/2021 12:27

@ashmts hope your pup is doing okay. How stressful!

ashmts · 09/06/2021 13:12

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat You were actually in my thoughts the other day when we were going through the worst of it, the panic and terror is unbelievable. Thank you so much for your kind offer. Hope all is well with GeorgiePup x

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, she seems a million times better today so just crossing our fingers she continues to improve. I just don't know when it's safe to send her back to daycare? I've been in touch with the owner as he's been checking how she is and he says he'll accommodate whatever we want but that a second head injury can be the serious one. DP says in sport they're advised to take three weeks + off after a concussion. I'm tempted to keep her off for three weeks then? Does that seem OTT or sensible? We can probably manage it between the family members who are retired or WFH.

MrsHerculePoirot · 09/06/2021 17:08

@ashmts go with whatever you feel comfortable with - maybe you can do some short days/few hours to build it back up if worried? Glad she’s looking more like her usually self.

familychallenge · 09/06/2021 17:21

@ashmts so sorry to hear about the accident! I agree on when she seems herself again. Hope you are all recovering well from the shock!

MonaChopsis · 09/06/2021 19:46

So glad AshPup is feeling better!

One more day until MonaPup can get out and see the big wide world!! Genuinely can't wait to take her for a walk on Friday morning, she's so ready to smell all the smells! Have promised DD that we can take her to the beach after school on Friday, which is going to blow her little puppy mind Grin

LadyCatStark · 09/06/2021 20:28

@ashmts glad to hear pup is feeling better 🥰.

@MonaChopsis Billy loooved the beach! He loves the field behind our house too but he’s not a fan of walking on concrete 🙈.

Turquoisesol · 09/06/2021 21:50

Hope ashpup is doing well this evening.

Turquoisepup is a bit crazy this evening. The chewing is getting really intense. She is 4.5 months. Does the the chewing reduce significantly once teething is over? She is constantly wanting to chew on furniture we are constantly giving her alternative chews and she often completely ignores us. Also she sometimes snaps at us even just when we stroke her and it’s really irritating. Just snaps at our hands without making contact. I really want some reassurance that she will settle into a nice adult dog. As sometimes it all feels a bit relentless 😳

ILikePizzaAndWine · 10/06/2021 07:55

Morning!

After a fairly relaxed few days, in the last 12 hours pup had turned into a bit of a naughty pup!

She’s pooed on her bed (I think this was over excited though)
She’s nipping everything
She weed in her crate on the blanket next to her bed overnight (should I just take the blanket out tonight?)
And after being so good about going where she’s supposed to go to the toilet, she has made it into a game and is deliberately not going where she is meant to.

All normal puppy stuff but she lulled us into a false sense of security. Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/06/2021 08:24

@Turquoisesol PoirotPup is just 4 months - but we find some chews better than others. Maybe play around or try some different ones? He loved the lamb braids from JR so we bought loads now he’s not that keen 🤣 he currently likes the ostrich braids, goats ears (these stink a bit!) as ones to eat that take a long time and the goats ears last forever so take 3/4 sessions. He also likes the yaks milk chews and we just got him a coffee wood stick which he also loves. I mean I have no idea at all - but we tried various different things to find ones that worked for us.

rnulanmoo · 10/06/2021 09:52

Are there any chews they can have at 9 weeks does anyone know? Little mooPup is going mad trying to chew everything x

LadyCatStark · 10/06/2021 11:13

@rnulanmoo carrots are great for teething!

LimitIsUp · 10/06/2021 13:56

I use one of these (Amazon) stuffed with puppy treats - she chews on it happily for quite a while

Puppy Survival Thread - May
LimitIsUp · 10/06/2021 14:00

Where did you get those chews MrsHerculePoirot?

familychallenge · 10/06/2021 19:09

@Turquoisesol sorry you are having a bit of a hard time with yours! It does get better- mine is 9 months and biting/ mouthing me not at all. He does still chew a lot- like others I have found a mixture of long chews is the best, and he definitely changes his tastes over time. When he was little he loved chicken feet but he won't touch them now. Furry rabbit ears don't smell and most dogs love them, plus they are good for them. Also bulls pizzles, tails and ears of various types and tracheas! All off Amazon or pets at home have lots of options too. I found slightly thinner or smaller things were better when he was smaller but now he likes chunkier and harder ones.
