Advice re vet and cruciate surgery please

I'll try to be brief. Ddog is a 3yo lab cross. Approx 9 weeks ago he tore his cruciate ligament while running. Once diagnosis was confirmed he was referred to local ish specialist and 8 weeks ago he underwent surgery Lateral Extracapsular Suture. Vet explained this procedure was preferable given ddog's thin bones. Everything seemed to be going well. This week he's been on 3 X 20 minute short lead walks.
Tonight he was awoken by a knock at the door, he got up and yelped in pain. Not he's holding the leg all of the time and looks like when it was first injured. So my question is, is it likely the suture could have broken? The vet never suggested there was any danger of this either now or in the future. Surely they should have mentioned if this was likely?
Will be booking ddog in first thing but I'm so upset. I can't believe he might have to go through it all again.
Any advice welcome.

Our westie had cruciate surgery three years ago and there seemed to be lots of set backs. We just went east after bad days and things mended in the end. Hope he’s ok

Thanks @dibly. Guess we just have to wait and see what what the vet says.

I am no vet!

Some dogs do get meniscus injuries after cruciate surgery. If so an easy op will sort it so it may not be as bad as you think. Fingers crossed it is easy to sort for you and your dog

Thanks @PollyRoulson
It looks like I was panicking!
Today he's back on four feet and even standing up on his hind legs to look out the window. I did a consultation with paw squad and was advised to ready it today, ice etc and vet tomorrow unless improved.
