Dog bedtime routines

We have a 10 month old who is pretty sleepy by 8pm and will lie by sofa etc. Around 10pm I take him outside on lead for a wee and then I lift him into crate. (He is a small breed)

Is this about right??

Now that life is resuming I'm wondering about how this will work if we are out for the evening.

Do I put him in the crate prior to us leaving and then take him out again on our return for a wee and then straight back into crate
Or will he need some interaction on our return??

All dogs are different but mine would want some interaction and I would take him for a wee when I got home. Mine would probably want a little drink of water too.

On the other hand, our older dog has actually taken himself to bed (on ours I confess) at about 8:30 and I have had to get him back up for evening wee. Which is complicated by lifts etc as we live on the 8th floor.

Thankfully he is good natured and goes along with it but I always feel a bit bad because he is so cozy. But taking him out at 4 is a no go so late evening wee is important.

You really have to love them. 🐾💕

Our little daxie usually sits up on the sofa with us for a cuddle once both kids are in bed (8-9pm) is then begrudgingly taken outside before last one up goes to bed (11-midnight) for her last wee and then goes upstairs to her bed.

Mine wouldn't be happy to be left in the evening if he'd been left during the day, so that's something to bare in mind.

Mine falls asleep on the sofa around 7-8pm, though he'll wake up if there's a chance he might get some scraps Grin last wee is around 10-11pm, then he'll happily sleep until 9am if he's left, though DH is up at six and takes him for a morning wee then.

Ours sleeps on the settee until 10 , then out for a wee , gravy bone on his bed and then upstairs to our bedroom . He then sleeps on my bed until about midnight when I carry him into his bedroom and put him to bed . As a pp said what you do will depend on how much time your dog has already spent in his cage in that day .
