Dog coughing

Our 9 month old Springer has a bit of a bad cough there is Kennel cough going round in the area. He has a wee coughing fit then he's fine for a few hours, he doesn't seem to be unwell he's eating and running around with the kids. Should we be taking him to the vet? Sorry if it seems a bit daft to ask I'm not sure if it's like taking your kids to docs with the cold!

Some advice on here.
DM’s dog had to have antibiotics for kennel cough, it sounded awful the poor thing.

Hi @Gingersay . My pup is the same but more tired than usual. Not coughing a lot but sounds like she's smoked fifty a day! Vet practice say not much they can do unless cough gets really distressing and can give anti inflammatory. It's the same as a cold for us. Loads round our area as well.

Our dog had it last year. He was coughing and lethargic. I am sure he also had a fever. He had antibiotics and it cleared quickly. The cough was quite distressing really, like he was chocking. I would watch your dog closely and seek vet care if he gets worse or doesn't improve quickly. Keep him away from other dogs. Ours likely caught it at the groomers.

Thanks, he's a big sturdy boy I've read it's worse in small dogs, the poor soul sounds like a goose and the look on his face is like is that me. I may give the vet a phone for advise if he gets worse.

Our dog , who does have the vaccine , has tracheal issues due to having KC very badly as a Battersea pup . He seems to be very susceptible to it and still gets it mildly , we give him baby tixylix which he loves .

I've added honey to the shop getting delivered he can have some of that tomorrow in some warmish water.

I read elsewhere that slippery elm is good so I've ordered some plus some general dog vits. She is being very naughty this morning and hasn't coughed yet.
