Complicated spay

So newpup went for laporscopic / keyhole spay today and it all went a bit wrong. They nicked her spleen and had to open her up to stem the bleeding. So she now has a larger than normal
wound and probably a 2 week recovery rather than the 2 days I was expecting.

So all tips welcome! She's currently snoozing in crate. She has a babygro thing on which I have to unbutton for wees. I think while she's so sleepy it will be ok but then I guess it's the usual task of keeping her calm for a long time. I've blocked off the sofa so she can't jump up anywhere.

Aww poor newpup, hope she's doing okay. We've just finished our two weeks recovery after a non-laparoscopic spay. It honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Ours had the babygro thing too, it's a pain having to pop and unpop every time but so much better than the cone.

The day of her op mine was really sleepy but by day 2 she was pretty much her normal self. Some loose stools from the anaesthetic but nothing too awful. We fed scrambled eggs for a couple of days. After that I fed her breakfast in a Nina Ottoson toy, she got a couple of Kongs a day, a Trixie snack snake, some rabbit ears to chew. She's been happy as anything. We could do a short lead walk daily, are you able to do that?

Oh poor little poppet

Is there likely to be any long term problems? If there is, has the vets offered to cover it?

How long have they advised to keep the 'baby grow' on?

Are you using her lead when you take her out for wees?

Hopefully someone more helpful will be along soon.

@ashmts that's good to know. I'm hoping ours will have a similar path to recovery.

Hopefully no longer term problems. Not mentioned today anyway! She has to go back for a check up on Thursday.

I have a few puzzle toys and we have a puppy kong. I think I'll order a bigger one and see what else is on Amazon 😂
