Maybe not the right place to ask but I thought fellow dogs owners might have experienced this...

AwkwardPup took his stuffed toy duck outside and I think a neighbourhood fox has sprayed on it (I spotted the duck as I was locking up, and as I went to retrieve it Mr Fox dashed off over the fence).

It absolutely STINKS.

I've washed it once on the delicates setting (30c, 1hr) with no luck, have stuck it back in on the baby & toddler setting (40c, 3hrs) with some pet zoflira and an extra rinse.

If that doesn't work, any tips? I only have non-bio, should I get some biological?

Photo from when pup was small for cuteness.

my goodness your pup is gorgeous :)

yes, I would be slamming it in the washing machine on a high temp with a bio tablet (though I'm sure non bio would be fine on a higher temp?). Fox wee absolutely honks you have my sympathy! Some suggest ketchup or bicarb of soda but I haven't tried either and I don't know if the ketchup would ruin the duck!

you can also get a spray called De Fox It or special animology Fox Poo deodorising shampoo (yes I have the type of dog that finds the fox poo and rolls in it!)

Tomato ketchup gets rid of fox smells - you'll need to properly scrub the ketchup in, let it soak, rinse and then wash afterwards.

Unfortunately, though, with it being a stuffed animal it may be impossible to get the stink out completely as it will have soaked right through the fabric.

Soak it in vinegar. That's what the ketchup is doing, but in a creamy texture so it doesn't run straight off. Squash the toy into as small a lidded container as you can and drench it with vinegar. Then wash next day.

Thanks all! Second wash helped, but it still whiffs a bit.
I think ketchup might stain it, so I'll grab some white vinegar and try soaking it.
Good shout on the fox poo shampoo too.
Pup keeps forlornly looking at me. He loves humping his duck.

What about dousing it in the enzyme spray to remove wee/poo smells ?

AwkwardPaws27 · 09/04/2021 08:23

I actually tried enzyme spray as had it in the cupboard; an improvement but still smelly (maybe if I'd had more, but I didn't have enough to fully saturate it).
Saturating with white vinegar, leaving overnight & then washing did the trick though!!
Thanks all.

I wash mine 60c and it comes out. Foxes regularly mark my dogs toys as they are left on the lawn.

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/04/2021 12:03

Sitdowncupoftea thank you - I'll definitely try that if any of his hardier toys get affected. I was a bit worried that the duck wouldn't survive a 60c wash without shedding yellow fluff throughout the drum Blush
