Just need to vent really our dog has been attacked at her garden gate by a neighbours dog known to be aggressive. The owners had their dog on the lead but it was too strong for them to hold and it just went for our dog.

Taken her to usual vets and they had said wounds are too deep for them to deal with, advised to take her to another vets these vets said the wounds are too deep for them to deal with so taken her to a third vet....she is being operated on overnight....it is going to be a sleepless night. They have said we won't hear anything until tomorrow unless it is bad news!

She is such a lovely dog she doesn't deserve this.

In so sorry to heat this you must be distraught.

BlowDryRat · 31/03/2021 20:28

I'm sorry OP. I hope your neighbours are suitably mortified and have offered to pay the vet bills.

Anon778833 · 31/03/2021 20:28

Oh that’s just awful. Your poor dog. I agree with you 100% and your neighbours really ought to be paying the bill tbh.

Easterbunnyishoppingmad · 31/03/2021 20:29

I hope you have reported to the police op.. Even online.
Fingers crossed for your lovely ddog.

bumperthumper · 31/03/2021 20:30

I don't think they are going to be willing to pay up.

You poor things. Is devastating. We had a dog that couldn’t cope with multitudes of other badly trained dogs and had to rehome him. I feel so angry. He was always well controlled and very nervous but others let their dogs jump all over him, scaring him to death. He was perfect and it was not his fault in any way

Easterbunnyishoppingmad · 31/03/2021 20:38

Police can take action. May not be the first offence and bet it won't be the last... Needs logging imo.

blowinahoolie · 31/03/2021 21:48

Please do have it logged with the police. As a PP has said, there may be a history here. Thinking of your poor dog💐

Stellaris22 · 31/03/2021 22:11

Absolutely report the attack to the police and try to get them to show responsibility towards vets fees. It is absolutely their fault. If they can't control the dog, even on lead, and can't/won't pay fees for attacks, they should not be keeping the dog.

Hope your dog is ok.

dontdisturbmenow · 01/04/2021 09:04

That's horrible. Every owner worse nightmare. Hope they recover without any damage. I hope something happens to that aggressive dog and owner.

Arbadacarba · 01/04/2021 09:08

@bumperthumper

I don't think they are going to be willing to pay up.
I'm not an expert but you may have a claim against them for your bills. As an owner you have liability for any damage done by your dog - that's why it's important to have insurance for a dog, even if you have savings that could cover any vets bills (you can get 'third party only' cover for a dog which is what I did when his age meant fully comp insurance became ridiculously expensive).
BigWolfLittleWolf · 01/04/2021 10:17

Did you get accidentally bitten by the attacking dog OP?
The police are far more likely to take action if so.
Hope your dog is okay Flowers
