Agitated dog

I know dogs have an incredible sense of smell and hearing. But how on earth does she know there's a hedgehog in the garden tonight, and why is it driving her so nuts, she won't settle, and wants to go outside and bark at it. Obviously not allowing that, just leave the poor thing alone, and go to bed.

I think the hedgehogs smell a lot. They are getting so rare here that my previous dog and I only met one once when we were walking around midnight but my dog went berserk and it took all my strength to hang onto the lead (big dog).
