What time is your pups last meal?

I’ve read that pups last meal should be at 5pm? That seems like such a long time till 6/7am.

Mine is always ravenous even though he’s getting quite pudgy!

What time do you feed your pup and do you give snacks before bed?

My pups eat at 9:30am (after morning walk and relief) and at 7:00pm. Never heard of 5pm for last meal.

I suppose it depends on age. My puppy has just turned 3 months and he's still on 4 meals a day. Rough timings are 7am, 12.30pm, 4.45pm and 9pm.

I think lots of people give their dogs a pre-bedtime snack, once their final meal moves to earlier in the evening, so that they don't wake up super early due to hunger.

My pup has just turned one and been on 2 meals since he was 6 months. He has breakfast after his walk at about 10 and then dinner between 5.30&6. I still give him a 'treat' lunchtime when we have lunch. Sometimes a tripe stick or one of those small log things.

So as late as 7pm or 9pm makes sense for the long stretch of night. Pup waking at 3am every night whining so it may be he’s hungry Blush

It depends how old your pup is. I feed mine last meal 5 - 6pm.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 18/03/2021 18:20

Depends on the dog. Mine only eats one actual meal a day and that's around 2.30pm. He has a chew/treat after his morning walk (something like fish skin or a chicken foot) and he gets some scraps/leftovers after dinner.

You could always give a bedtime biscuit if you think he's hungry.

Wolfiefan · 18/03/2021 18:23

Mine aren’t pups anymore but they still get dinner at 5 then a snack at 7. It’s a long time until breakfast!

Idbemonica1 · 18/03/2021 18:27

Mine is nearly 4 months, 3 meals a day. Fed when we get up which is 6.00 ish, 12.00 lunch , tea at 6.00. I give them a small something at bedtime.

CMOTDibbler · 18/03/2021 19:35

In our house (and we foster pups), everyone of normal weight over 6 months gets fed at 7am and 7pm. Normal weight pups between 8 weeks and 6 months get lunch at 12.
Teenies and those underweight get many meals, including supper and I feel like it never stops!

blowinahoolie · 18/03/2021 19:37

Fed at 6am, 11.30am and 3.30pm.

blowinahoolie · 18/03/2021 19:40

Like a few others though, she does get a treat a few hours before bedtime. Chicken foot goes down well. Or turkey neck etc.

HappyThursdays · 18/03/2021 21:02

Ours gets breakfast between 7am and 8am and dinner at 4pm (7.5 months)

tabulahrasa · 18/03/2021 22:02

9 and 9... and if they need lunch that’s at half 2...

That’s all roughly though, I mean I’ve not got alarms set, lol and half their meals might go elsewhere, into kongs or used for training.

Brazilianut · 19/03/2021 11:04

Last night he ate only part of his dinner then had a light snack before bed. He did 3 huge poos through the night as if he’d eaten a feast. Poo throughout the day too. It does make me wonder if other pups poo this much!

Brazilianut · 19/03/2021 11:04

His dinner was at 6ish, one poo at 2am another at 3:30am and one at 5:30 am 😩

9 months old, last "meal" when we have dinner around 6ish? depends when we eat tbh, he has a kong so he doesn't come to the table whilst we eat. Sometimes a chew in the evening after that and some kibble on his last walk. We're not super routine about feeding here as we still use a lot of his kibble for training. He sleeps through from 10-6.30.
How old is yours? Ours used to poo loads but as he's got older he will do a couple of big poos on his morning walk and maybe one in the evening but it has slowed down a lot!

Brazilianut · 19/03/2021 15:45

@Chocolateandamaretto he’s 10 weeks and a poo machine at the moment, any little snack = big poop. That’s really good to hear and I look forward to it!

11 weeks old. 7:00, 1:30, 7:30 - plus a boat load of treats.
